Was just introduced to the third Van Wilder movie. Yes, that's right. The third one, the one you never knew existed, and it's just as bad as you would expect.

1 shameless and unnecessary sequel out of 5.

I watched a film "The Man from Earth," based on the book by Jerome Bixby

"An impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring scholar reveals to his colleagues he is an immortal who has walked the earth for 14,000 years."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756683/

I was very sceptical to start off with but soon became engrossed by the film and by the end I just wanted to watch more, nothing flashy, simply a group chatting in a guys living room but definately worth a watch... A film that I would recommend!

I watched 2012 at the weekend. What a crapfest that was.

The first escape in the plane was entertaining, in an over-the-top effects explosion, but after that it was so dull I ended up fast forwarding through bits of it. I'm usually the first one to complain when someone says they've done that, as surely if i hadn't missed bits it would have been better?

I found it worked as a comedy. The bit where the subway train catches air... pure genius. Although my fast-forward-fu is strong and did get an airing in this one.

Also this.

So I've come across Jeff Bridges playing a Old West federal Marshall:

The Princess and the Frog - actually pretty good. No truly memorable songs in the film like The Lion King or Aladdin had, but a very, very good movie. I'd give it 4.5 hops out of 5.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Remaking a John Wayne film just shows how far down the toilet we've gone as a culture. Can nothing stand as sacred anymore?

Anyway, I watched Potter 7 (7 part 1? 7a? 7.0?) this past weekend. Kept me interested, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for the book. (I love the Potter series, but book 7 was a misfire IMO) Good direction, great acting, loved the animation.

EDIT - oops, forgot: I give it 3 deathly hallows out of 3.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It's not a remake, it's another adaptation of the same book. And it's being made by the Coens, and the Coens trump John Wayne, sorry.

Monsters. It's an unusual film... think of Avatar. Think of how far removed you can make a film from Avatar and still be a sci-fi involving aliens. Heck, it's even set in a jungle and involves a love story, but really it's so completely the opposite.

Basically, think of something like Lost in Translation as a road movie with aliens with an Apocalypse Now/Werner Herzog/Terrence Mallick vibe thrown in. It's a beautiful film to look at and an affecting one too. I hope it gets the word of mouth it deserves (me and my brother were the only people at the cinema today). You definitely have to be in the right frame of mind, but it's defo worth a watch.

agreed really enjoyed it.

Jeff Bridges does, for one. The Coen Bros. do, for two more. My great aunt Martha's corpse does, for four. John Wayne sucks, basically.

Re: The Princess & The Frog, I agree completely. Very good movie, neat animation, and totally lackluster songs.

I just gave out my first neg rep. I feel kind of mean for it, but I can let that kind of talk just fly by without repercussion.

Jeff Bridges and the Coen bros trump John Wayne?

You have got to be fucking kidding me....

I know, I know. I'm gonna use good judgment. I haven't lost my temper in forty years, but pilgrim you caused a lot of trouble this morning, might have got somebody negative rep... and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't, I won't.

The hell I won't!

Did Worrywort just negrep herself?

Anyway, Wayne is overrated, Clint Eastwood would kick John Waynes ass with one hand tied behind his back.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and the movies tied into it, are perhaps the best movies of all time. Of all time!

Apt is on one side in a debate about movies, thus the opposing side wins. I don't even care what the argument is.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
