Masters of the Universe is an outrageous amount of fun.

Just the right balance between leaning into the silly humour and having a lot of heart. It won't work for everyone but we both absolutely loved it.

Leto's Skeletor is better than I expected, but I don't think anyone can touch the sides of Mark Hamill's voice performance in the newer Netflix series.

Sounds like critics loved DISCLOSURE DAY but audiences are much more mixed with a bunch of people saying it's not good, and Spielberg has kind of lost whatever touch he had left.

I read a summary of the film and not only does it sound largely boring with lifeless action chases, but the ending would have actively pissed me off.

The whole movie also seems to function off the whole Roswell 1947 cover up shit...which Spielberg reportedly believes happened....but no one decided to tell him that such narratives went out of vogue in the year 2000....he's making films for his Boomer contemporaries who also believe that nonsense and still want to live in that conspiracy world...the rest of us HATE conspiracies now.

I'll watch it when it hits streaming, but it does -- at least from what I can tell -- seem like a throwback in an out-of-touch way rather than a return-to-form way. Maybe you're right and he is stuck in boomerism after all. I liked West Side Story and The Fabelmans quite a bit, but you can't really argue either was forward-looking.

Sigh, I had issues with this adaptation and the anachronisms therein, but the more I watch the trailer the more I'm sucked in, so I'll stay mum for now and see what the actual film looks like before weighing in fully. It definitely looks better than the Netflix P&P

So I finally watched Superman (2025) and honestly I think this is my favourite ever version of him. I dunno, something just clicked got me. It was incredible. And it annoyed a bunch of gammons/genocide fans/brain-dead right wingers, which is a bonus!

Seconded, they nailed this. Pulled the right parts from the book, simplified what they needed to, hit all the right emo beats. I applaud them for not dumbing it down even further to go for a younger/family market, it would have been a mistake i think.

It's practically a 90's goofy sf-action comedy with a big budget which has gotten lost in the year 2026. It certainly isn't high art but if you don't laugh during it something is seriously wrong and you should probably see a doctor.

This was my take as well. Everyone I know who saw it seems to align with that take too. Spielberg is making films for the 20th century, not today.

I finally got around to seeing this (never got a chance in theatres, not for lack of trying, busy life) and I would disagree, it's more certainly a continuation of the story that played out in 1 and 2,

especially the character growth of Neytiri who goes through it in this, grieving the loss of her firstborn, trying to wrangle her second born, hating the adopted child of the humans (Quaritch's kid Spider), and butting heads with Jake...she runs the gamut here while also still being a categorical badass. And Lo'ak going through the pangs of the loss of his brother, and his own need to step up from his reckless ways to learn how to lead and how to do the right thing, in the right moment. The story of the Tulkun was also rewarding as it felt like such a cool facet of Pandora to have sentient speaking whales that have an ancient culture, and their attack on the military was great as it showed how outmatched the humans STILL are when the Pandoran's unite...the Mangkwan are the only reason that the Navi' forces ended up on the backfoot at all until the squid attacks.

I think these movies are best when they immerse you in the world and culture on a slice-of-life level where you almost forget it's a fiction story. When the boys and Tiseya are riding the Tulkun it feels like a BBC documentary.

Also, I'm not sure I'd call some of the best work Weta have ever done "Generative AI" really. I found the effects in this to be nigh-exquisite.

If I had one complaint it would be that Edie Falco is not at all scary as the General of the human forces, and that Parker (Ribisi's RDA head character) doesn't feel as much of an entity here...but then he's always been greyer as a character, not fully evil...

Otherwise, we enjoyed it. I hope 4 and 5 get made as I think the story needs a solid ending and I think that needs to start to happen in the 4th...I know that Cameron said that Neytiri ends up on a human ship and sees what happened to earth in the 4th film and that changes the series in big ways.
