Indeed, it would have made more sense that Obidiah was taking the company from Tony Stark while he was battling alcoholism.
Also, the Iron Monger vs Ironman battle was all too short. Why put some sissy limit on Ironmans battery in the final battle? Why not just give us action/comic book fans a 15 minute armored battle suit brawl in the the middle of a city? It could have been much cooler.

because they needed a way for the *next* 2-armored-battle-suits battle in this coming film to be better then the last!

Not enough screen time left or big enough budget....the 1st one is an origin film remember...so most of the film is him building, ans then perfecting the suit etc etc.
Im sure we will see lots more in this installment. With Iron man ready to go
Although im sure we will see allot more of how whip lash comes to be...but im sure they wont just square off at the end.
