Something RLY said on another thread got me thinking.

After the last book is done and released, how long will the forum last? It's true that forum activity spikes around the release of a book, and tapers off later.

Will this place die a slow death once SE's done with the series?

considering that there's at least two more trilogies in the making, not to mention the expected sales increase once the series is done, I'd say no.

Besides, whom else would I laugh at for being anarchist if I couldn't hang around here with you?

As long as SE writes anything (and ICE for that matter) , this forum will live on...

Hehe... this made me think of the time I used to hang out at theforce.net forums. After Ep 2 (I didn't even wait for 3) I stopped. Doesn't matter that there will be more books and TV series etc.

I predict there will be some lean times for the forums once the main sequence is done. They wont shut down, but casual comers and goers wont, well, come and go.

I give it ten minutes...then Rodeo runs out of coffee and quits in disgust, sparking a chain-exodus.

But the Inn will always be here, right?

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Ha! I don't even drink coffee!

I don't come here because of the books.

Personally, since I've read all the books and don't like to overanalyze them, I have the book forums closed (although I do occasionally hop in the DoD forum to lurk)...

Although I can see how activity would definitely slow. Unless that DhG movie or whatever became popular (although I haven't see the progress on that).

We get DoD in 2009, then likely TCG in 2010.

We at least have three more Malaz books from ICE at about a book every two years starting in 2010, so that takes us to 2014.

SE is planning two or three Malaz trilogies at about a book every 2 years, so assuming only two trilogies and that he takes a break after TCG let's say the first book rolls out in 2014, that takes us to 2026.

By then most of you will be dead and the sun will supernova and we survivors will all be living in space stations and plugging into VR happy places in between bloody space battles against the alien mecha empire scavengers for resources amongst the asteroid belts.

So we're good.

Even if the series ended with the 10th book, I dont think the forum would die. People would still be discovering these books and looking for an outlet to discuss them. And, besides that there will always be these off-topic forums.

everyone will go over to ModCraft and Silencer will suddenly be flooded with ten thousands remarks about how the rpg should be done differently...

I don't really think the whole forum will die out. There are plenty of authors who are dead or no longer active who have active discussion forums about them, I imagine.

God. What if 30 years from now I'm still discussing nerdly things with you people? There are worse fates, I suppose.

And then there's going to be the fan based movies, the RPGS, the terrible television series, the video games and one day the Virtual Reality Burn experience...
