Did you know that Antarctica got its name because there are no bears on the southpole? Amazing what you learn reading Dan Brown novels...

Did you know that according to Dan Brown, Jesus Christ was actually a polar bear?

I think criticizing Hollywood (and America, by proxy) alone for churning out stupid movies is unfair and shows an attitude that was probably already prejudiced in the first place. I've seen enough dumb and blatantly pandering Bollywood movies to last me a lifetime (Jaani Dushman, anyone?).

Good content is hard to produce anywhere and in any form. Fortunately, finding it has become easier with the tumultuous advances of technology.

Of the "worst" pandering to the masses late '80s through '90s flicks I can think of now, a surprising number featured non-American actors, writers, directors and producers. There's no excuse for Road Hogs or RV though, and I'd say the CGI movies, like Shrek 3, Shrek 4, and the one a year or so ago about talking cows, are getting progressively more exploitative.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I liked when the Russians attacked England with U-boats.

Hurr durrh and if it wasn't for the french the americans would still be a part of the brittish empire!

The best part of the Japanese American war was when the japs sent bombs attached to balloons acrosss the pacific in an attempt to bomb america. Quite a few actually made it over the ocean only it was kept secret so the japs wouldn't keep it up.

I just like how my comment (that could possibly have been worded better, but I was under the crazy assumption that we were mostly all friends here and you folk generally get where I'm coming from) that a movie named after an American classic car, about a Korean war vet, guns, immigration and gang culture with a theme song sung by Clint Eastwood was made for an American audience.

Saying movies are "tailored for an American audience" is pretty standard stuff in the trade of British film reviewing and taking any possible prejudice into account, I still don't think we need to apologise for it.

That wasn't what anyone took offense too. (I didn't take offense, I was just joking around), but it was when you said 'the movie was made for stupid people... tailored for an american audience'.

I would imagine that is what people took offense too.

You seemed to imply it.

Go read the movie thread after your comments, I was just joking around and HD explained what it seems you wrote pretty well.

I just read them, I still think my comments are generally positive. Maybe you guys have a chip on your shoulder? I didn't respond in thread to clarify my position because to be honest, I was pretty irrate over RLYs unwarrented personal attack.

I mean, what do you guys seriously think I believe about your country? I am currently here working because having time at a US research institute on my cv will make it considerably stronger. There are clearly some fantastic things about your country that makes it an environment for that to be the case. The US is not perfect however, same as my country. I'm just calling it as I see it.

How to lose friends and alienate countries

Seemed appropriate for this thread.

There are a whole lotta pissed off Canadians from this (myself included). It's particularly bad as it came out just as the bodies of 4 more soldiers came home from Afghanistan. I realize this is Fox News but when you consider it's the most watched news station in the US....

I don't like any of your countries, so there. Went your anger at me for I live in a socialist paradise.
