Just beat the game. It took way longer than it should have, because I kept getting distracted by other games. Wow. Such a good game. I'm glad I was nice to the little sisters, I don't think the ending would have been as good.

Somehow I never got the invisibility plasmid you guys were talking about. Oh well, didn't need it.

You needed to take pictures of the houdini splicers. The ones who teleported.

Yeah, you not getting the invicibility plasmid sounds weird. Wasn't it an actual plot quest? Or am I thinking of the spider splicers?

How much did you use the camera? I'd maxed out the research in all fields long before the end.

"Bioshock" is one my favorite games of all time. Just love it. Hugely excited for the sequel.

Rapture!

I didn't bother with the camera too much. My mistake, i guess. When splicers showed up I was too concerned with shooting them in the face to take pictures.

I just bought Bioshock second-hand from the local video store.

Gonna fire it up here one of these days. How much time should I leave myself to get through the game's preamble?
1-2 hours a la Oblivion / Fallout 3 or is it more of an instant action type game?

It's a mix of preamble and action adventure all the way.

The first level I guess is what you could call the preamble. Will probably take you an hour if you just charge straight at everything.

Personally I was a nervous wreck jumping and hiding everytime I saw a shadow.

Yes, there's quick save and quick load.

But there is also "vita-chambers" where you respawn every time you die. There is usually a bunch of them on every level.

The vita chambers sort of brake the game balance if you start to exploit them. I'm not going to give you any hints

Here's my hint. Search every room as well as you can. Ammo gets scarce.

Impossible. I was rolling in cash in the last half of the game.

At the end, sure. Before that though, it can be a problem. Plus, there are other reasons to search as well as you can.

Of course, but generally I thought it was easy to combine your plasmids, engineer skills, and what ever you find to more or less ensure you're never low on ammo.

Worse case scenario you can always run around with nothing but your plasmids and wrench and do just fine.

started this game on Friday evening. Simply awesome. the splicers are hilarious too. Shooting them with the electro-plasmid when they're in the water

I love when you recharge your mana (or whatever its called) and jab the huge needle into your wrist. Cool sound effects too. When your mana reload sound effect is a guy baseball-batting a canteloupe rather than a diminutive "gulp"...you know you have a winning game. Where is the camera by the way, is it something you start with or do you need to find it?

favourite part so far...injecting my first plasmid. The sequence after that is great!

EDIT also terrified and stoked to have my first run in with a little sister / big brother.

HOLY SHIT

had my first big daddy run-in last night after defeating the crazy doctor guy on the second mission. Holy fuckin fuck they are hard to kill. I zapped the bastard in water, emptied 2 armor piercing clips in his face while he was all jittery, zapped him again and unloaded a full machine gun clip into him.

Half. health.

wtf man, am I missing something or is the first one supposed to be that ridiculous? I had to spawn about 3 times to finally kill the bastard.

And how the hell do you dodge their charge attack...they just stun you and run at you over and over until you're dead...and you can't reload or zap or anything while you're stunned. All I have right now is the electro, incinerate and telekenisis plasmids. What's the best technique?

Good to hear rescuing the little sisters is worth it, I've been doing that but after the pain in the ass you go through to get them in the first place (see above) I just want to wring their ugly necks.

The best way to kill that first Big Daddy is to stock up on as much Electric Shot as you can (it won't be much, maybe 6 shells by that point). Then shoot him, he will be stunned long enough for you to reload and maneuver around him. Shoot him again, repeat process. Those six shots should heavily damage him and allow you to finish him off fairly easily with plasmids or more shotgun shells. Just wait until you find Rosies in the 2nd level ;)

Use Control Big Daddy, then make them follow you where there's RPG turrents (Second Level one) or Machine-Gun turrents which take out 1/3 of their healthy if they are far away.
Once you get Telekinesis it's easier by picking up their proximity mines and chucking them back at them.
Until then, electric+armour piercing rounds.

But yeah, very fun game and storyline. I'm hoping against hope that BS2 doesn't suck which it's looking at right about now...

I had a bunch of electric buckshot...but used it all on turrets and cameras....never expecting it to be a good big-daddy killer.

Will save it from now on

Question though, during one of my attempts (it took a few save/loads to finally kill it and get the sister), if I don't get the sister after murdering the first daddy, do big daddies keep respawning to protect her? On one of my loads, I killed the daddy but couldn't find the sister for some reason. Then another daddy comes out of nowhere while I was looking around for her. Is that just a continuous spawn on the location or is it a respawn on the sister?
