and near a hundred chaos weilding mages.

height of sillyness

Agreed. Only entity in the whole series I'd really consider overpowered.

Is the Eresal the first sentient being of the human race? Or is she the first sentient being period? I do not think she has done anything that another elder god could not have done.

Not sure what you mean there re Udinaas?

In RG Udinaas challenges the myth and history behind Scabby and Silchas and his brothers, and emphasizes that mortals have a level of power gods/ascendents should fear.

I don't see how that translates to what you're saying.

The Eresal is the sole remain of the race that was ancestor to the human one. And as far as we know, EG still have to display time-travelling powers.

What about Gruntle and the Panther like Goddess meeting up in the dream of the future (or the past) where Morn was called New Morn in TTH?

If we can see the future and the past...as with Kruppes dreamworld why wouldnt we be able to travel to those times? Pocket warrens of memories exist in a time of when eventual-humans ran with wolves and Osseric lives there viewing them.

silchas ruin on the eres'al : "she travels through time in a way none can comprehend, much less emulate," or some thing to that effect

This can certainly mean that the Eresal will be the only time traveling bill and ted in the series, but we have seen over and again that characters viewpoints are often wrong, misleading, or incomplete. Not to say that this particular viewpoint is any of those.

As I said above if Trakes Mortal Sword can have his soul travel through time, as he did with Toc and now with Gruntle then the next step can certainly be possible as well can't it?

all very true and plausible, but the eres'al doesn't seem to have and roots in time. gruntle has his roots in darujhistan and the present day and age, the eres'al was the last of her kind, in her time she had no roots and now she wanders through time as she pleases

With so many overpowered characters, one can only wonder why the world in question isn't slowly disintegrating.

Well, yes, that's about it, she does this whenever she pleases. Gruntle's timetravel was just a one time occurrence, wasn't it? As well as other examples, they're more like fixed things, e.g. the warren Osserc resides in. But the Eres'al can and does show up wherever she wants to.

But maybe that's just my general dislike of time travelling entities :p

Well, in RG, when that sorry bunch is in the Andara, Udinaas tells a conventional fairytale with impossibly perfect heroes cutting down evil minions by the hundreds, with obvious contempt. Sonds like SE to me.

But feel free to disagree.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

I took that as a decontruction of the heroic myths behind the stories, including the Andii stories of Silch and co.
But i don't connect that to SE disliking powerful characters. Esp given the sheer abundance of them in the series.

But myths and how they are warped with time and purpose is a key theme in the series.

Maybe the abundance of overpowered characters serves to balance it better than most authors do. There is no one supreme being in the maalzan universe, with no black or white, lots of grey. And alot of almost equally powered and underdog individuals. With each race having its pinicals.
