Good argument about spawnkillers, but TBH I've hardly seen that at all on the PS network. I dunno if its the way the spawns cycle or what, but very very rarely do I get murdered by a spawn camper. There's a few maps of course where the spawn points are placed in slightly retarded locations and people can easily happen upon your spawn point (like the TV station multiplay map in COD4, when you spawn in the bathroom off the lobby area), but I really don't find it happening very often. If the opposing team is overrunning your position badly enough that they're killing you at the spawn points, the game just starts spawning you clear across the map. Its obvious on maps like "crossfire" or "wet work".

Couldn't they also implement a 5 second immunity on spawn to stop spawnkillers? At least it would be consistent and would enable them to get rid of the gayest perk in the game.

Well, spawn campers are mainly an issue in free for all games. Especially the big games with +24 players. In the 30-40 player games in small maps, you're only hope is to camp. I've managed to get a 30 man killing spree at one time playing those games.

aha...there's the issue. PS network doesn't have a game mode with more than (I think) 18 players, so overrunning of spawn points is seldom an issue.

That said however, last night i had the most ridiculous game ever in the Pipeline map. I must've been playing an organized team cause they were coordinated like nothing I've ever seen. The second I'd start running from my spawn there'd be 3 guys sweeping around to take out that position before my team had a chance to get defensive...and then when we were all dead we'd spawn across the map....rinse repeat. The round ended with a 750-140 score or something likle that. Not very fun to be on the receiving end of that, let me tell you.

I suck really really bad at sniping and have completed a lot of the challenges for the assault rifles / smgs. As such have been branching out into the other gun classes and discovered that I have an obsessive love of the shotguns. I have a custom shotgun class on standby at all times now. Its just rotten fun to tear around on a map like "vacant" or "bloc" with the 4-shell shotgun and stopping power, one-shotting everybody in my path.

Another love obsession I've discovered is double-tap. Oh my fracking god is that ever fun to use with the light machine guns. RPD+doubletap = spray n' pray goodness.

Question thought, I really like the 8-shell shotgun for the added power / capacity, but the cycle time between shots is irritatingly slow in an intense fight. What would speed that up, slight of hand for faster reload or double-tap for the faster fire rate?

CF:

Use the 4shell with Juggs and SteadyAim and the grip. You will rip through entire teams.

I am not sure if you can speed up the 8-shell 'pump' action, but if you can it would be double-tap.

cools. Yeah, I'm getting a lot better results with the 4-shotter since my aim kinda sucks. I was thinking sleight of hand would be more valuable than jugs on that one though. The semi-auto action is fracking great but 4 shots just aint enough if there's more than 1 or 2 guys coming down the hall. Must needs experiment. Also, will try doubletap on the 8 shotter, that would fucking rock if it actually made the thing shoot faster.

The third love obsession I've developed in COD4 is last stand. I know some people consider it kinda cheap, but it truly is hard to get kills when you are on that last clip and zero health. Oh so wonderfully satisfying when you do can actually manage to get the kill-back on an inattentive gunman or random passer-by though. I've had pretty decent luck with it. The very very best is when you are going against a camper in "chinatown" that's just waiting at the top of some stairs...he takes you down when you come up and thinks he's scored a camper kill....then the last stand kicks in. I've found if you had a pretty good bead on him to start with (before going to last stand mode) if you just start snapping off shots the second you go down the aim is more-or-less preserved.

Ah yes, last stand is great fun when you're lying in door ways or at the bottom of stairs. Even more fun when both of you are lying in last stand and firing at each other. ridiculous but funny.

I think last stand should be disabled for hardcore modes. There is about a second from when you 'down' them from when you can damage them again after they drop to last stand. I die so often in hardcore modes because it takes 1 pistol shot to kill you and the fuckers run around with modded controllers and empty an entire clip at me in that second of invulnerability they have.

I don't mind people with martyr - its easy enough to avoid if you are paying attention.

I'm def. getting better at avoiding the martyrs...but I still find it super fracking annoying.

I didn't realize there was a delay where you can't be hit while "dying" in last stand.

Maybe why I actually get a kill once in awhile.

One of hte best things to happen, you kill a sniper on hardcore across the map, and the idiot has martyr going so he kills like 3 of his teammates. Oh so fun.

This is why I can't stand hardcore, hate having the noobs on my team that mess me up due to stupid stuff like that. I play Hardcore S+D sometimes but way too much teamkilling detracts from that. I am too vengeful so I kill my teammates twice for every one time that they kill me, unless it was a mistake, so that ruins games.

I also don't get snipers on regular team DM or HQ that rock juggernaut or martydom. You are supposed to be a sniper across the map, not playing an assualt sniper class.

Stalker, my friend rocked Juggs with the .50cal when he was finishing up his headshots, he used steady aim and pointed towards the head and clicked that trigger like hes using a G3. He said it worked well - he did it with the 3 semi-auto snipers, where I actually sniped for my headshots. Oh well.

I don't like playing Hardcore TD unless I have 3+ teammates because that cuts down on the TeamKilling quite a bit.

finally got my shotgun grip. Don't find it makes a huge difference actually, not with the 4-shotter anyways. I find it better to save the Perk 1 slot and get bandolier instead. Sleight of hand on the 4 shotter is friggin ruling too.

The grip for the Light Machine guns totally rules though...at least for the ones with decent sights. The M60 sights are frackin useless.

I had the best round of my life last night on PS3 at 25 kills.

Funny, PC users see me play and they're like "your average is 15 friggin kills?!?!?!?!?" cause they all have like 50 kill rounds.

Console shooting is a fuckload harder than mouse and qwerty though.

It is, and that is why shooter games are not meant for consoles, just like you're not really supposed to play racing games or beat'em-ups on the PC.

I tried playing Goldeneye on N64 and I've had a deep seeded hatred for console shooters ever since (except for Doom2 for PS1 and Resident Evil)

it comes eventually though...there's just different techniques to it. First off you have to realize that the "look" joystick is largely useless until you develop the fine control on the sticks. Just aim in the general direction of peoples' body and strafe to center on them. For the longest time, if I even touched the look stick in a firefight I ended up acidentally looking at the sky with a gut full of bullets.

On the PC, "looking" is natural because its controlled by the mouse. Makes for a major advantage though.

People do get really good at aiming with the console though. Especially the snipers. Looking at the KillCam, I have no idea how they kill me half the time...like picking off the top of my head while I'm crouching and moving behind a concrete barrier. Its annoying but you gotta respect it. I figure that's the key to getting awesome. If you can aim perfectly with the sniper rifle, the rest of the guns should just be easy.

So I was at home sick yesterday, and when I wasn't sleeping or sitting in a hot shower, I played some COD4.

Four matches in a row I went better than 30-5, one of them I was 48-3, and I lost every single match because of the terribads on my team. My K:D is back up to 2.30 though, so I'm pretty happy.

I hate picking up a sniper to go with my silenced mp5 and seeing some dumbass has an ACOG on it. ACOG's should not be allowed to be put on sniper rifles. I want a goddamn suppressor on the sniper.

SOOOOO Awesome. I am absolutely tempted to buy this edition, and I very likely will. I have the Mjolnir Halo helmet and now I need the CoD working night vision goggles. Not sure of a price yet but it will be bad I'm betting.

A couple friends started playing cod4 online; this is enough that I may as well take the plunge and go ahead and buy it.
Does anyone here still play this game on pc?

edit:

Bought it now, played to level 11. I suck horribly at this game--unused to the whole "duck behind cover and peek out" mentality this game demands.

yeap, ramboing doesn't really work in COD4. It gets you killed real fast.

Are you kidding?

Use a G3 or RPD or P90 or MP5 or Mini-Uzi and rambo the face off the entire other team!

Sixty, want to be a dick and learn the maps while getting kills? Here is your setup:

M16 with red dot (need 50 kills to unlock)
Perk1: Bandolier
Perk2: Stopping Power
Perk3: Steady Aim

Always move. with steady aim, if you are close the the person, don't 'aim', just put the center of your screen over them and pull the trigger.
