which will be in about 3 months
i'll be sticking with my old phone
I can't justify spending money on something I'm not gonna use.
if i just want to waste time, I have my laptop.

Once you go smart...you can never go back. What you said is what I been saying for ages, but I realise my mistake and should have joined the party ages ago. There are times you cannot have a laptop and want to know something quite badly and the smartphone is there for the net or whatever.
which would you prefer a little moped or a nice sporty little car to whizz you around in? Same thing, only it fits in your jeans pocket.

I have a cell phone! It tells me what time it is when I'm curious. It also lets me talk to people who want to talk to me. That's really all I need from a phone.

I do.
but since i'm really not big on luxuries, in my case, at least, your point is moot.
especially if the thing that's ONLY better-looking/more stylish costs SIGNIFICANTLY more money.
i'm graduating this year.
meaning, i'll be stuck with student loans to repay.
i'll stick with my old cheap phone.

I will be honest and say that it is not for someone who has student loans and what not to worry about. The iPhone isn't cheap when you initially purchase it and if you really are going to use all of the features the thing has, plus various add ons, you're going to be looking at a significant phone bill every month. It's certainly not the cheapest way to go, but for me it's worth it!

Not sure I agree with you there on this score, Ment me old chum. What seems right to you now may change in the future and you'll look back and think...
Back in my younger days I was a cab driver and one of my mates started working for a company called Tom Tom. Only four people worked there and my mate Tom was one of them (The name is a complete coincidence). Anyway we were chatting about it all and the guy was getting all excited about this new navigator they were going to release. I looked at him and said that'll never take off, I've got a map and I'm bloody good at using it. Funnily enough, everybody has sat-nav these days, including me. True story.

What can i say...the force is strong within you young ment...At least the European force that has a tendency to make one unwilling to accept change
Anyway...I think ment is a lost cause and will be happy to putter about with 1st generation garbage, I've found my news feeds and all is good with the world. Due to the fact that the iphone software is so bloody good and the screen is so bloody big...The iphone is my new phone of choice.
I do miss all the books I was able to read on the windows version, but I'm thinking I might be able to find a way to circumvent even that.
Now all I can do is bemoan the fact that the iphone has a crap camera...
All this is coming from a person that did not want to join the apple bandwagon and media machine. I am not blind or easily led, its just that the product is so good. Same reason I use windows (XP), its simply the best.

This is what I keep trying to tell people! If you look at online reviews, even if people loathe Mac products, they all admit that this is an excellent phone, with some fantastic features.
To read the ebooks frookie you just need to use the Stanza app. It allows you to read books in most formats, including Amazon Kindle, Mobipocket, LIT, PalmDoc, Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format, HTML, and PDF. Plus Stanza allows you to read eBooks in both landscape and portrait modes. Each page of the book is displayed separately, so you don't need to scroll down the page. You can flick through pages by using your finger or tapping on the left or right side of the screen to turn to previous or next page. The search icon lets you search for specific keywords. The bookmark icon allows you to go directly to a particular chapter. They also have several free books that can be dowloaded directly to you iPhone. If you have any questions just let me know I'll be happy to give you a hand
Oh and I forgot to add that the app is free, which makes it even better!

Yes that should be no problem, I just plug my phone into my Mac. Then you just click drag and drop the files onto the iPhone. If you're having a probloem with that (you shouldn't though) you can always email yourself the documents as an attachement from your PC. Open them with the iPhone and they should save and be accessible to you. Plugging it in and then clicking and dragging should do the trick though. Of course I'm using a Mac to do this, but I haven't hear of anyone having issues doing it with PC. There is also an app called Air Sharing that will allow you to easily trasfer the files from PC to your iPhone.
