Never heard of this, so if it is found in any recent interview someobody should share it :p

Also, we know about his past, so what would it be about? The rake trilogy will be about his adolescent years I think, would karsa be about him returning home as chief of the tribes?

Well the two most obvious storylines will be
1. The origins of the various Toblakai races, and where they all went. This will include their overlap with Icarium and whatever happened on the Laederon Plateau.

2. Karsa's army, and the future of the various TT races. Will he try and wipe out civilisation? And will Calm be there to fulfill her vow.

That the future of the world will one day reside in a confrontation between Calm and Karsa, if I remember correctly.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Plus that Karsa's sword is unbreakable due to being invested with the spirit of his friends. Wasn't Calm's comment to Bairoth along the lines of "stepping aside when the time comes".
ok found the quote

Quote

Watch this friend of yours. Guard him. There will come a time when he stands poised to change the world. And when the time comes, I shall be there. For I bring peace. When that moment arrives, cease guarding him. Step back, as you have done now.

Now that Bairoth's spirit is in Karsa's sword, does the step aside quote still hold? Could it still work to render Karsa's sword breakable? At the worst possible moment?

So Calm is going to take Karsa out because the Forkrul Assail don't like change? I'd completely forgotten all this.

No, I think Calm would take Karsa out because she feels like it :p

So far, nobody has given any real evidence about this trilogy. So it is just wishful thinking from the forum or do we have real facts?

We don't have any real facts other than the fact it includes Toblakai somewhere.

What do you mean? Is the trilogy one day being made, a reality? Yes. Erikson has signed some kind of contract I guess. Check the announcement forum, I bet it's somewhere in there.

Do we know anything else? I don't think so.

I hope its a combination of both. As a fan of Karsa I hope it continues and ends that storyline of his, on is vow to unite the Toblakai and wage a war of genocide on the "children." So this would obviously concern the future of the Toblakai, as well as the entire world. Considering this would be a new series in the world of Malazan books, new characters and revelations would be introduced. The trilogy would definitely benefit, in my opinion if it didn't just focus on the present but the past as well. If you consider the fact that Steve doesn't exactly release every new book based on chronological order, it wouldn't be too surprising if the trilogy started the first book with the present-day Karsa, the second concerning the origins of the Toblakai, where they went and evolved, as well as the Icarium and Laederon Plateau plotlines, giving us revelations and insight into not only what happened in ten novels of the main series but the first book of the trilogy, and the third book taking place where the first ended and concluding the trilogy.

what do you think of that idea?

I reckon we'll just have to see what happens in DOD and the CG..
I can't see it having anything to do with Karsa. hopefully not in my opinion too cause I'd get sick of him.

Toblakai could mean anything.

don't forget, the Laederon giants are still just "Teblor", :)

The trilogy may wrap up Karsa's story (most predictable), but it may also deal with the Tartheno when they first settled Letheras, or Bellurdan and the other Fenn.

after all TTTs were one of the Founding races, and they've been around for a looooong time.

Somehow, it feels all wrong to me for Calm to be any kind of threat to Karsa. The FA seem to have lost much of their original invincibility as the series progresses. For someone on the same powerlevel as the guy Yedan Derryg wiped the floor with..

Yedan Derryg had Andii blood, on a sacred Andii warren-road.

besides, we don't know how old that particular FA was, since it was an outrider of a group.

otoh, Calm is freaking old and still a powerhouse.

besides, Calm may make an appearance in the Darujhistan novel, before this trilogy takes place

Rep for cool idea delivered.

It's all pretty wide open. in theory we'll see Karsa in Darujhistan before the TT is written.

I stil hold a pet theory that he'll move the Teblor and tarthenal to Seven Cities.

- Abyss, giant among men. or something.

The age thing may be true, but do we have quote fu on FA getting more powerful as they get older?
As for the Gallan road, they were off it, as i read it, and actualy in thyrllan(which was why they even ran into the FA). I'd think that would actually weaken him, as it did the others..

not necessarily, no.

what I meant was, Calm is more likely the FA version of an ascendant--not the worsipped kind, just the "harder to kill"-kind, as Apasalar defines them.

RE: Thyrlann. We are given no indication that the Shake lost the road. since no-one really lives in Tyrlann (TL live in KL, lol),the road of Gallan may well have went through Kurald Thyrlann.

and yes, Yedan Derryg drove off the road, but it's still possible he's been given a huge power boost from simply undertaking to walk the sacred road that hasn't been used for milennia.

About 250 pages through HoC on a reread and Calm is one bad ass, she rains down blows on Karsa before he can even respond and totals Delum so shes definately no pansy version FA and it took Icarium and the T'lan mass working together to imprison her!

I would like to see this story feature Karsa's children aswell, since "his seed" took root in the Rathyd Clan Leaders wife and daughter, sister/brother to aunt/uncle weirdness plus obviously the mass raping spoils of war spree he went on before leaving the hills. Should be a few mini-karsa's running around up there
