I'm sure this will get loads of hate from various aspects of the fandom but my opinion is that I will literally watch everything Middle Earth related. If I like it, great! If I don't, fine, I'll just not watch it again.

Same. More Tolkien content is good in my books, and I'll judge it when it comes out.

I also think that the boys (Sean, Dom, and Billy) have put a LOT of effort into supporting fandom and being present and joyful for people who loved them in 25 year old films...and I will reward that with support of them in this project if they end up in it.

As to post LOTR trilogy content thus far, I liked a LOT of the HOBBIT films (I think buried in the three films or varying quality, are two SOLID films), I liked the WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM film a LOT, and while I struggled a bit in the beginning of S1 of RINGS OF POWER, I felt the back half was awesome and that Season 2 was ALL fantastic and can't wait for S3...so I mean, as things go, they are not batting too badly in my eyes on newer content.

So we know about THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM, which I'm excite about since I trust Andy Serkis, and Ian McKellen....but today Peter Jackson announced that they are making another LOTR movie called SHADOWS OF THE PAST, which is being co-written by LOTR nerd, lore master Stephen Colbert (!!) and his son...and will apparently take place 14 years after Frodo's death, Sam, Merry, and Pippin go and retrace their steps of that adventure, but it will be diving into the portions of the story that the movies didn't, Tom Bombadil the Barrow Downs ect. (which is a neat idea) and Sam's daughter Elanor uncovering a long-lost secret about the early days of the War of the Ring that almost saw the mission to destroy the One Ring doomed before it even really began. Out of all the way I thought you could adapt those missing pieces of the narrative into a film, using the hobbits later in life revisiting the story is a neat way to go about it.

I HOPE this means that Sean, Billy, and Dom are going to come back playing age-apprpporiate older versions of themselves! And I would assume that Alexandra Astin would be considered to reprise Elanor?

So I am excited about HUNT, but this sounds ever more awesome and I trust both Jackson and Colbert to try do it justice.

This does not sound great.
