Guild Wars anybody still play it?

I just picked this game back up. It's been rotting on my shelf for quite some time now and I finally decided it was time to give it another go.
I always liked the interface, the mana/damage system, the community, the frantic and difficult missions, the fully instanced world, the not-so-ridiculous ingame economy, the fact that the game looks and plays extremely well despite being very light on system resources....even for a 5 year old computer, no monthly fee, solid bug-free game, overall high difficulty of the game when you get toward the end, and most importantly, none of the missions and quests will take more than a few hours to complete...even if you're going for a full clear plus bonus.
All that and the game is fucking huge. It has 3 expansions now, two of which are standalone games and one is an add-on to the original campaign.
Anyway, I've only just started playing again, getting a feel for the interface with some of the easier missions. Anybody else out there enjoy rocking the guild wars on occasion?

I still do, on and off. I finally got 10 character slots and made a mesmer, which ended up surviving all the way to level 20 without dying and now I'm really tempted to do an Eye of the North repeatable quest in Hard Mode over and over to max out that title rank, because a mesmer Legendary Survivor is hilarious. Out of all the classes, my ele is probably my most played and favourite character, but my paragon was a complete surprise - it was fucking awesomely good at killing all sorts of things.
Also I have difficulty making names that aren't silly.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I've got all three expansions, and I usually log on at least a couple of times a week. GW is still, far and away, my favorite game...
I've got all professions, except for Assassin and Mesmer...

I used to play a lot. My mesmer rocks. Far and away the best class.
I haven't played in about a year, though. Just kinda lost interest right around the time GWEN came out.

I was a wow head for a long time and very glad I switched back already. Was doing a bit of henchy soloing yesterday to get back into the control scheme and forgot completely what a pleasure the game is.
I never made many characters, warrior, elementalist and a monk. I always like playing the monk because she's always in demand. Like I plop into a mission start zone and immediately get 3 invites. Never got that with my W or the Ele. For being able to actually experience the whole game, my monk is far and away the best, even if it isn't as exciting as playing a damage dealer. A bit of drudgery for some pretty good props from group members. I've currently got the monk all the way through prophecies except the last couple missions.
Elementalist was tons of fun to play I played her all the way through Factions except the last couple missions.
I really wanted to try the Paragon though. Maybe after I finish the game with my monk.
I'm just amazed all the time how awesome the game looks for its age. It doesn't even use half the resources WoW does and yet manages to look beautiful in every zone. I can run it on full everything, full resolution with only a piddly Geforce 6600GT card.
Just wondering too....what's your best tactic for moneymaking in the game. I've had limited success.

I would suggest Zaishen Key farming. One of the Factions PVP missions, like Jade Quarry, over and over for the Balthy points, 5 plat a key gets you cash quick. Also it'll beef up your Kurz/Luxon rank for your paragon's Save Yourself! shout - it's a fucking lifesaver.

oh. Can you buy the keys with Battleground points or something? I never really got into the PvP when I played before. I liked PvP in wow though and most think Guild wars has pretty solid PvP too.

Balthazar points get you them, 5k points a key, around 5 plat to sell. Run around the Zaishen Islands off the boat for the dude who sells them, if you can't be bothered to find either of the wikis.

I used to play Guild Wars a lot as well in the first year of its release...but like all other mmo's I got disillusioned and quit around the time they released nightfall.
They ruined PvP imo, all the good people quit. Was a great game during its first year though.

I can't argue much there, the amount of times they've made perfectly good skills shit for PVE because of about 50 people abusing them in PVP is infuriating. They've done something about fixing that with allowing PVE and PVP versions of skills, but then they keep fiddling with the PVE versions anyway. Nerfing overpowered skills - fine. Nerfing skills that are fine in PVE because of one group of PVP asshats - not fine.
Still, most of the staff are working on GW2, which after reading The Movement Of The World I am now really looking forward to.

I'm pumped for GW2, gonna be a great game.
But yeah, I was going to get back into it before I found out that they nerfed edge bomb. Lol, edge bomb disguised as ranger spike = funnest shit ever. Or the one time they bugged a ritualist skill for spirits to work on players, allowing one-hit time bomb kills...
Good times.

just started the nightfall campaign.
I'm a bit disappointed by how few people there are doing the PvE missions though. I always thought PUG's in guild wars were pretty good overall...made for some enjoyable times. Just aint the same with a crew of henchies.
I'm liking having a hero monk to go with my main character monk. Have me outfit for healz and him outfit for protection. Makes a pretty effective combo even though the AI can be retarded at times. The necromancer hero is great when set up as a minion master too...friggin bone minion machine. Made the first mission pretty easy.
I fucked up the quest that gets you the nuker hero though...I want to get him. Mages = quick enemy death generally.

Cerv, add my paragon's name, Probably Not Batman, and I shall play with you later on - I have a few characters who are around that area and my paragon has all the NF missions due to being awesome.
Also there's another nuker hero quite soon into the game, so don't worry.

sweet. I was on the guildwiki (per your suggestion) and found the hero list. I think I get the next nuker about 3 missions in. Kinda pissed me off but Koss + dunkoro + necro guy are a pretty rad combo regardless. Mages are tolerable as retarded henchies anyway since they just stand back and wail away without really needing detailed commands.
I played through prophecies (mostly...its fucking long) and factions so I never experienced the heroes until now. Must say I like the idea quite a bit...and the ability to command them to different map areas is super useful for missions where you don't want them aggroing everything in sight.
Nice to hear paragons aren't useless piles of crap. They seem like a really fun support class. Are they mostly damage augmentation for when you're in a party? People don't seem to play them much.
I'm getting back into the swing of GW healing. It's a lot different from WoW healing. I forgot about how specialized you can get...like if you're rocking the pure healing then it pretty much means you have to forgo the protection stuff if you want to be effective...but the protection/damage mitigation stuff is super important for hard missions so you gotta bring along a protection monk too.
Its a super nice refresher to have a quest driven RPG a la Baldurs/planescape after the rinse-repeat grind drudgery of WoW. I think I might quit that game for good. Its fun when you're grouping, but oh SO boring on your own....plus at LvL55 the lvl80 content is soooooo far away.

So, for anybody who cares (which is nobody probly), Illy and I had a little sesh last night, did a few quests and beat a mission w. bonus. I got one of the best monk elites in the game (zealous boon) and had some fun.
Was that your main there Illy, the Ele or did you say you were running a Paragon as a main? If so, whats your paragon up to mission-wise? I'll try and get up there quickly so we can hit some more questing. I have a warrior that's up there too, been thinking of getting him back in the game cos they're always good fun to play. Get to stay in the action a bit more too.

My ele has the most hours, so I guess I'll call it my main character, but it's partway through a quest that is two missions after where we got to last night. You'll have caught up after the mission Moddok Crevice or whatever it's called. Oh, and when it comes to which hero you pick out of the Master of Whispers and the ranger pirate woman person, check the wiki or your resource to see which of the pair of missions you choose is easier - I think the pirate's two are easier overall, but I picked the Master anyway. His first one is piss easy with a ranger or secondary and Winter to deal with the boss.
Oh, and my paragon has Protector of Elona, so he doesn't really need to do anything in NF for a while. I'll bring him out if we get stuck though, he's a killing machine.

cools. I'll see if I can catch up. my weeks are usually hella busy, so I don't know if I'll be able to advance a lot very quickly.
I was thinking of getting the ranger since I already have a necro. It'd be nice to have somebody to pull stuff orther than myself. Plus the crippling/bleeding shots can be useful.
Gotta read up on good hero skill builds too...mine are a bit haphazard at the moment but I haven't put a lot of time into em.

Google Pvxwiki. It's useful for the lazy man who can't be bothered to make his own builds. Like me, most of the time.

Getting back into it slowly.
Got a Necromancer/Mesmer as my main character.
Elementalist/Necromance as secondary.
And a Monk/Mesmer as permanent pre-scorching Ascalon.
