If you beat the main campaign or eliminate said faction from the game, then you can play as them, provided they are supported in the game. I think portugal is one you can play if you beat them. You can download mods to be able to play as everyone, including the timurids!

I miss being able to look in my city like you could in Rome, that was cool :p

Where do people see Total War going next? I mean, obviously Napoleon expansion, but what beyond that? I really don't think a World War Total War would work that well personally so is this the end of Total War barring remakes? Maybe a Mongol/China based game?

Shogun 2: Total War.

I think they will do at the least 1 more game, as Empire is another of their revolution swings, where they make a whole new engine and stuff for 2 games in a row.

I can see ree regioanl expansions, like what they did with Kingdoms in medieval II

have a campaign dedicated to individual regions--Africa (the whole race for Africa thing), Middle East, Orient, Latin America...

yeah, but who would be the playable sides, aside from the usual culprits?

it'd only be cool if you could play for the small states.

for example, I'd want to play ethiopia with a chnce to fight off the Italians..

I liked that too - especially as the buildings appeared as they were added on the campaign map.

Would be cool if you could not only see your city, but build/plan the defences, especially in medieval.

@Cause - well, it's down to about 16,000 per turn now I have a bigger navy. After upkeep. I figured that if I develop loads of production and plantations in America, it will fund my invasion of India, which is my next stop.

I just find the game sloow, because my pc is only just up to the job - the loading takes ages, and I don't seem to advance much for the time I spend on it.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I've been looking at new PC's... the one I have is quite old, but has upgraded graphics card and RAM. I can't really upgrade it any more though. Some of the specs on the pc's designed primarily for gaming are just incredible - a nice big monitor would be nice, too!

So, then anything multiplayer?
I'm afraid I get bored with just single player games...hence the 3-hour cs:s marathon last night. But I've been itching to play some RTS's.

Dawn of War 2, although I suck at playing eldar. I've got a double digit lose count with them. Doesn't help that I'm usually up against level 27 people with a true skill rating at least five times my own....

I played through that game's single player, never even tried multiplayer. Not that I had the opportunity. >>

I'm not one to play a lot on the 'net. Tried it with DoW2 mostly because I like the idea and the replays are fun to watch and learn from, but the standardized routines and mili-second timing required to play to the max & win are not my cup of tea for any RTS... I want to think and outmaneuver, not get outbuilt/ out automated... like in mmorpg PvP.

Isn't DoW2 built like Company of Heroes or something like that?

Never played CoH, but aye, the way units function and requisition etc is built up is compared by many reviewers to one of THQs WW2 strategy games.

Im impressed. Think I made 9k or less by that stage of the game. Whoa re you playing at. It was my first campaign and there is alot I would do differently now having learnt so much of how the game really works. Manual is a joke.

Still I seem to have broken through some kind of threshold. Making 60k profit a turn and it just keeps going up. Swedens territories are a gold mine. Thats what irritates me about all the total war games. The longer you play the easier it becomes not harder. I own half the world. No one can match me. I just keep playing because I am determined to own everything. Im hoping super prussia will be fun when I get around to them.

Suprise star of my game is portugal. I backed them against spain and from stealing everyones trade on the ocean while under my protection they have become super rich and although they only have 3 territories they are all next to my own and their regions are covered in full stacks. Ill have t knock em out soon.

Is their a region why rice farms only go up three rankings where as all other farms go up to five/

Also recently when I play sometimes my computer bombs. A bue screen warning comes up and my computer just restarts. Never used to happen but now it happens alot when I play?

Are you getting quite far, past 1760 or so? Seems like a lot of crashes occur once you get past 1750, particularly - after a naval battle, during the turn change when it reaches the pirates turn, and when the Hurons are taken out. Usually crashes to windows.

I haven't got that far yet though! I'm playing as British; I have America, but haven't touched Europe yet. I don't even have a significant military presence in Britain, as no one has tried to attack me, ever! Just as well, as all my armies are still stuck in America post conquest. (Portugal just got taken out by the spanish in my game).

I just use my money to build mines and plantations everywhere at the moment, and upgrade the roads and ports - anything to bring in more money a few turns down the line. I don't have any rice farms yet, and yes, the manual is a bit crap, but pretty much everything seems to get covered by the in-game advice.

My problem is - if I have 6 colleges/unis busy researching, when they finish their current research and there are no more techs available, I can't seem to take over the research being done elsewhere. This is frustrating, as I then have a uni with 4 gentlemen doing nothing, while some school in florida is taking 10 turns to research something! if there is at least one tech free, it's possible to swap them all about, but I haven't got any free ones yet.

I had the same problem, now however my problem is now I have too many schools and too few techs to research. Im pretty sure if you click on a school that is doing the research and click on what they are researching it turns it off. I miss spies. Gentlemen and Rakes just dont cut it.

Im about 1760 now I would say. So you have heard its a bug in the programme? This game needs patching fast. Still I dont crash to windows my whole comp restarts. I took out the pirates early game so thats not the problem and the huron have one region left which I cant be bothered to look for. We have been at war for 50 years and hae not seen each other for 40.
