Wow, good stuff you two.

I think we should all wait for all the fights to end, put all our votes and comments in the same post.

For now I just want to say that I like this sentence:

It looked almost like a cross between a crocodile and an ape, but leaner

It's the "almost" that gets me :D

Well, Lippmer vs Samantha Sandstorm, part 3 is up.

I spent the whole weekend just trying to find ways for Lippmer to attack. I mean, really, how do you fight a bunch of nanobots with a sword...

Mez, due to a combination of factors I probably won't be getting mine done before you leave, so it'll be waiting for you when you get back on the Sunday.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

on a sidenote: I do love how most entries seem to describe the author's opponent having the upper hand.

I think that's why I love Deathmatch so much. Every person writing probably has a pretty specific character outline as well as ideal for how their character should act/react/fight. So the first challenge is to write as much about your character as possible, so your opponent has something to work with, without giving away all that you invision. And you need to do it in an entertaining way, rather than writing up a laundrey list of traits.

This then makes it important for authors to be thoughtful not only about their own character, but to give each opponent's character serious thought since it is necessary to manipulate them within your own post. You have to give as much consideration as possible to what the other author intends for their character.

Furthermore, you have to be able to roll with the developments that another author has made for YOUR character. It's the individual effort a collective story that makes this so much fun! :D  :D Finally, the challenge of making an ambiguous ending so people can vote a winner is fun too.

I LOVE DEATHMATCH!!!

You’ve never heard of the Silanda? … It’s the ship that made the Warren of Telas run in less than 12 parsecs.

?

Didn't I lose both times to DIB in Deathmatch I and II ? What happened in III anyways? Did Cause kill my character there when I didn't post or something?

Hey, I posted! Eventually!

OK, I 1; forgot about it and 2; had to deal with a demigod when my character was an air mage. I still think sacrificing the crowd and my character to create an orbital laser by distorting the atmosphere over half the planet into a lens was a great ending, though.

Hi finished the Morgoth vs Me match. I must say that I preferred the last piece when I had it in my mind. Anyway I'm catching up.

aha, a worthy end indeed :p .. Well done Bauchelain, I think this fight turned out great. Good luck :p

Hm, I guess I can slip in a couple of votes at this time, unless people find they prefer votes to be given when all the fights are done?

Well, fuck it

Tapper vs JA - This fight was brilliant, and very funny at times. I am curious as to how you will continue making your characters interesting, but I trust that you will find a way. When it comes to prose I'm having difficulties deciding. JA I think had parts that were very very good and some parts that were not so good, whereas Tapper was much more stable in the quality of his prose.

Humour was good on both accounts, though Tapper generally seems to share my sense of humour more than does JA. Something I'm sure can be argued to be both good and bad :p

As for the characters, JA falls behind because of the originality of Trouble compared to the Duke, who after all is a predeveloped character. I wouldn't say it is cheating, picking such a character, but to my mind it demands a lot of the writer making that character his own, and not just a copy. JA did that to an extent, and if he gets to continue in the DM I am sure he'll move even further in that direction. For this fight though, my vote goes to Tapper.

Alt vs Shin

There's nothing wrong with the prose of either of these contestants. The writing flows well and the overlapping is well done and does not cause uneccesary breaks in the story. I have however always been fond of Shin's writing, which I guess is a disadvantage for alt but there's little to be done about that. Tiss a subjective opinion after all.

When it comes to the characters themselves, I find them both excellent. There's no lack of great characters this time around either, and these two are both very interesting. I must say though that I find it hard to see how there can be further developments when it comes to Alt's character, at least compared to Shin's. I find myself much more intrigued by Shin's little boy (reminds me perhaps a little of John, which is my favourite self made character) which means I guess that Shin wins overall for me. So my vote goes to Shin.

Okay I posted. Sorry meant to do it yesterday but I got home from uni at six, had supper, sat on my bed for a moment to rest my eyes and the next thing I know my mom was waking me for UNI! It was hard for me, Ill say that much. Tried to do the whole silly vibe we seem to be going for. Im proud of the one gag but you will have to let me know how the rest worked out.

And morgoth do we have to mention that I killed your character every time. i said sorry. I thought the character was the sword not the boy. I thought my ending had power! Bring it up again and Ill kile you!

Well Cause, your bit is well written and all, but I was kind of expecting to get some of your character in there, with some development. I actually had to go back to the first page and look up who it was again..

Thought it was running a bit long as it was. I also thought my intro was pretty clear as to his abilities and motivations so DIBS should be able to go with it. Still have another post. And most importantly my character does not fit silly so I needed to take a different route.

no point making it absolute comedy either. Not that much humour in my latest. Also, I quite enjoyed your post, for what it's worth.
