Okay, having finished with watching The End Of Time Part II I have a few comments.

Spoilerific ones of course.

The second part was leaps and bounds better than the first part. The Master's insanity and scenery-chewing was toned down a lot and we got some good stuff out of John Simms. The Time Lords were well done. I liked that the Lord President (Timothy Dalton) was essentially at the end of his rope and we see shades of the Doctor embracing the dark side of his power in him, the difference being that The Doctor has stopping power, the Lord President does not and has gone mad. I love the idea that the dissident Time Lady that Wilf keeps seeing and then the Doctor sees, is in fact the Doctor's mother....and is the reason he decides to stick to his no murder policy...though we never find out for real, producer Julie Gardener eludes to as much. "He Will Knock Four Times" is so entirely touching I was really impressed, and Tennant shows us his acting chops one last time in the scene where Wilf knocks. I liked that he got to go and say his goodbyes to all the characters Davies had dreamt up, the two Star Wars Homages in the episode (Death Star escape turret gunning, and the Jack Harkness Cantina scene). I think the only one that lacked the emotional resonance, though I understand why Davies had to do it, was Rose. Him seeing her before she even meets the 9th Doctor doesn't have the impact I wanted. But it's not like he can see Rose in her current location anyways, not without ripping holes in space. Still. I think the Martha/Mickey scene was great! I love that they got married, and I think Mickey looks more badass than he eve could now. Awesome. The Doctor's final scene as he stands in the TARDIS and regenerates is also entirely touching with his statement of "I don't want to go". I'm a 32 year old dude, and I cried like a little girl with a skinned knee. I will miss Tennant really badly, as when Matt Smith first shows up my brain screamed....he's not the Doctor! I have accepted it a little more now as I have seen the scenes from Series 5 and it looks good and fun and Matt Smith does have a spark that I can see now and like. Here's hoping we all enjoy the new Doctor as much as the old one. Also, the Weeping Angels, created for the Steven Moffatt-written episode Blink are going to be back and I love them as villains, and Daleks are back, of course.

Whether you love him or hate him Russell T. Davies deserves our praise for resurrecting a show we all thought would never live again after the 1980's, and the atrocious TV movie in the early 90's. He made it fresh, new and for the most part very entertaining! I for one loved Davies' Who and think that Tennant will always and forever be my favourite Doctor. Kudos to Mr. Davies...he made me fall in love with a sci-fi show I grew up with all over again. It made me feel like a kid in a candy store when there was a new one to watch. I'm very glad this isn't the end of the Doctor though, that it is only the beginning.

couple of questions:

was the time lord woman definitely his mum?
from the way he looked over at Donna when he was asked who she was, I got the impression that it might have been his wife.

and how come she could contact Wilf anyway?

I mean, if she's time-locked as well, then how can she do it? hopefully that question will lead to a return for wilf.

Great finale for the 10th Doctor. I admit I got a little choked up with his "I don't want to go" end line.


But the 11th Doctor looks like a boatload of fun!

I've now read some stuff over at the Gallifrey Base forums with folk believing that maybe somehow Donna IS his mother. The 8th Doctor claimed he was part human on his mothers side (though I realize we largely ignore the 8th doctor as an abomination). What if Donna's half-timelord self from Journey's End somehow finds her way back in time and become the Doctor's mom? It's all very convoluted, and we'll likely never know....but it's fun to speculate. At least we are going to see Alex Kingston return as River Song in the new Matt Smith series.

Let's look forward to Matt Smith's 11th Doctor:

First off, i hear tell that the new first season has an overarching plot thread referred to as a "Dark Fairy Tale" as described by Moffatt, which I like the idea of. I have watched that BBC preview for the new series about 5 or 6 times now and every time I watch Matt smith grows on me...and now, at the end of the trailer when he says "Trust me, I'm the Doctor"...I believe him. That's about as much endorsement as I can give him right now, but he holds promise as far as I can tell. The inside of the revamped TARDIS looks BADASS! I do like the new outfit too...the bow tie and combat boots affair, very fun.

What do you guys think?

The new series looks fun, though of course these little previews tell us exactly nothing, other than a few visual titbits, so it's impossible to actually judge anything on the teaser trailer. Still, not long till we can watch it for real

Hmph. Had almost the exact opposite reaction - the more he speaks, the more I think how ugly he is. That's gonna be a hell of a hurdle to overcome for me.

So for now, I won't expect much and if Smith turns out to be good then I will be happy.

Who said the Doctor had to be good-looking? I mean he looks weird and I thought the photos looked odd especially with the outfit but having seen him in motion I reckon it works.
It's his acting that'll make it though... that and how cool he can look running.

Can't wait to see where Moffatt takes it.

Agreed. The Doctor's looks have absolutely nothing to do with how he'll be as an actor. I realize that Tennant was considered a looker for the ladies...but come on.

Indeed, but that was true of Tennant too in his post-regeneration scene. ....the trailer I think gives us a more accurate picture of what we'll get from Smith...

As an aside, Matt Smith was already a question on Jeopardy about the 11th Doctor, the question was something about a Matt smith taking over a role played by Tom Baker and Peter Davidson, and the answer Doctor Who. Not days after Tennant's regeneration! Methinks there arte some DW fans on the question writers at Jeopardy. LOL

Producer Piers Wenger, at a private screening of the first episode of the Matt Smith/Steven Moffat series of DW, had stated that the BBC are already committed to a second series with Smith come 2011!! Tis good news, on the cusp of the premiere of "The 11th Hour" comes April 3rd in the UK. Can't wait!!
