The first special was tons of fun. Exactly what the show needed to start back.

Couldn't agree more. I was so excited when they announced Russell T Davies was coming back as showrunner, and that episode had his name stamped all over it. I also had a huge soft spot for the Doctor's relationship with Donna first time round, so it's lovely to have them back together.

Loved that.
Could not be happier to have Russel T Davies back. Can't wait for Christmas Day!

Gods I love Ncuti's Doctor! He's so great in the role!
Can't wait for this one on Christmas Day (WHERE DOCTOR WHO SPECIALS BELONG; YOU HEAR THAT Mr. NEW YEARS. DAY CHIBNALL, THAT'S THE SOUND OF RTD STEALING DW BACK TO IT'S PROPER DAY)!

So Mrs. Flood is the Rani right?
Rani>Rain>Flood
My other clue is that the companion who was actually with the Doctor during the Rani eps in the Classic run? Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) who is currently running modern UNIT with Kate.

I'm not entirely sure what to think of that opener. It was....fine. It has nothing truly great about it, and it didn't drop into some nadir of the show. It was goofy fine. I get we are introducing this seasons "RTD arc" (Bad Wolf, CybermenVDaleks, Vote Saxon, Davros, Sutekh) in the whole Mundy Flynn/Belinda Chandra/Star Ownership stuff...so a lot of this particular ep seemed to be crafted around that notion, rather than making a decent standalone episode of DW.
Ncuti is great as always....I'm not sure what to think of Varada, or at least how she's playing the companion...she seems like an angrier Martha (to Ruby's Rose...if that makes sense) and I felt she was well offside reading him the riot act for scanning her to tell her something fucked up is going on....like lady, he just SAVED your ass and the woman you tried to use as an argument piece (Sasha 55) died on a planet that was in YOUR name...Like I understand the whole situation is offputting and fucked up, but the guy who saved you and you treat him like shit? What on earth?

I've got to disagree with you on that last part. The Doctor was acting creepy and invasive and she fully had the right to call him on it. Also apart from the nurse thing I'm getting way more Donna vibes than Martha.
The episode as a whole was a lot better than Space Babies. An effective intro basically, yeah. I really enjoy that they're not using the bigger budget to be cool and slick, but same old cheesy Doctor Who but more. The aesthetic was great.

Was he? He was trying to save her form the off, including stopping her from being taken...I fail to see how that's creepy or invasive.

It's not the course of the story, it's the end, when he walks up to her, goes 'we're connected you and me', and tests her genes without asking, all while clearly assuming she's down for whatever adventures he's planning without asking her first.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Eh...I'm less annoyed by that. She literally is the source of a planet that had kidnapping robots on it run by an Incel...is testing her genes from a scan invasive? Maybe.
