What did you guys think of this past weekend's episode?

I really liked the idea that the trees have been saving Earth during all its existence! And I think this is the first time that I actually believed the Clara/Danny relationship, and truly liked Danny as his own character instead of an extension of Clara.

I liked the tree episode though I figured the trees were saving us plot quite early on. Though I think the main point of the episode was to show the progression of Danny/Clara. Which u think will be very important next week -looks like a Clara focused episode.

I knew that Moffat was going to have the Master be a part of Gallifrey coming back and Twelve's search for it.

Typical Moffat first part of a two-parter. All the table setting taken care of. A fully entertaining opening bit with Clara and The Doctor. Danny's death was a BIG surprise. All in all a great setup for next weeks finale.

I'm still not sure how no-one noticed all the skeletons inside St Pauls Cathedral, but aside from that, ace episode! Completely misleading beginning too, I thought the post-it notes were going to amount to something, and then maybe Clara knew something more which is why she was acting so weird at first...

The line by the Doctor, "Do you really think I care so little for you that your betrayal means I won't help you" was flipping ace!

That was ace, but the 'go to hell. No, I mean literally, let's go to hell' was a bit contrived and very 'Simon Cowell-on-X-Factor'. Bit unsuitable for the moment and not in a way I think suited even this Doctor.

A few things about the whole Missy / Master thing.

1. Obviously the Master escaped the locked Time War/hidden Gallifrey since we last saw him diving in after Rassilon into it. If the Master can get out, how far off is saving Gallifrey?
2. Obviously he's regenerated since John Simm and he's NOT a guy to waste them so clearly something happened to him to cause him to ALMOST die (they can bring John Simm back to show this as a flashback)
3. He's not doing the whole "blasting energy" being eaten up by his own power that he was when we last saw him...was it that which caused him to regenerate?
4. As far as I know the Master was on the light end of his regens too so was he bequeathed a new set too?
5. What about the drums? Are they still in his head or did they completely cease when Gallifrey almost came through?

Lastly, the best scene in the whole ep was the lone that followed on the volcano scene. The Doctor's speech to Clara was PERFECT. And it's the first time that he's been Matt Smith's Doctor to her. It's the first time that he's REALLY shown the whole "I'm going to do everything, EVERYTHING in my power to help you" type friendship...and he does it for a man he doesn't really like (Danny). That's about as Doctor-y as one can get. And Twelves growth is nearly complete.

Second fave moment:

The kissing scene

Doctor: (wincing) Clara is it over?

Missy: Do you want me to modify that protocol?
Doctor: Yes, please do that right now.
Clara: Maybe just a bit.

Clara: Tongue?
Doctor: Shut up!

I'm not sure what I'm expecting next week. I honestly, genuinely don't know what's going to happen with Clara and Danny. I don't know if Dr. Skarosa (founder of 3W and Cyberman in the office with Clara at the end of the ep) is going to be anything other than a tongue-in-cheek nod to the Daleks (SKAROsa), and possibly where the Master got a Gallifeyan hard drive from to use as the Netherspehre. Why the Master would be working with the Cybermen, and vice-versa. I'd say that's the best cliffhanger to a two-pater that I've seen since THE PANDORICA OPENS ended with the Doctor being placed inside the Pandorica by all his enemies.

And then download himself into a new body - provided by the Cybermen, AND thereby leaving a method to bring Danny back as well

Ah, that's actually a really cool idea. I never thought of that. It would expalin the presence of the nethersphere in geenral too.
