I am just curious to be totally honest, why don't people like Itkovian as much as other characters, ya he isn't action packed like Gruntle or Rake, but he does some pretty epic things which I don't want to go to into, not only that but he is possible the most emotional complex characters up till TotH (which im reading atm). I mean he holds a city for as long as possible, he gains the respect of almost everyone, and he finds himself questioning his vows to Fener. He is personally my favorite character in the series, anyhow I would like to hear other people opinions on this topic :(.

What gives you the impression that people dislike Itkovian? I think it's accepted forumwide that Itkovian was an awesome character.

Itkovian is not only my favourite character in the series, but he comes pretty close to being my favourite in the whole fantasy genre :(

Itkovan is hands down my favourite character so far in the series (halfway through Midnight Tides). Then again MoI may be the best book I've ever read, so I may be a bit biased :(. There are so many great characters in MoI, but Itkovian ranks at the top with Gruntle not far below. Big fan of Heboric and Toc the Younger after what happens in MoI and HoC as well.

I really like Itkovian he's an excellent chracter. I'll spoiler this as you're reading TtH at the moment. My problem is [TTH spoiler]

Itkovian may not be my favorite character in the series, that position being handed to the Fid, but that doesn't mean I don't love the guy. His POV in the siege was maybe the best read of my life. ofcourse Buke, Brukhalian, and definitely Gruntle contributed but Itkovian's POV was what really drove that section of the book. Don't worry though. It's as Apt said. Everyone on this forum loves Itkovian. Most people just love one or two other characters a little bit more. Again though, there are alot who rank him at the top.

Sorry I feel as though I got my point across wrong, I did not mean so much that people dislike him, but that he just is as appreciated as other characters. I say this because (being new to the forums) I have looked at polls, posts, and such and he never gets as much recognition as other characters. Sorry if I worded my self wrong. :(

Well that's just because you're much more likely to get a thread about who is a greater swordsman than about who is a more favoured character...

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Sometimes, I find my self asking... myself: What would Itkovian do?
The leader, his audience still,
considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"

Are you kidding?

I can't even tell people about Itkovian without damn near breaking down into tears. I was heart broken at the end of MoI because he was so great. Between that and Whiskeyjack, I felt that life maybe was no longer worth living.

But I am not yet done.

Whenever I hear or read the words "I am not yet done," I feel a little wrench at my heart. I too love Itkovian :D

I think if I ever got a tattoo, it would have to malazan-based, with "I am not yet done" written somewhere. Maybe in latin for geeks sake. He's that damn good a character.

I haven't read everything on this thread because I am only on MOI. I think that Itkovian is one of the best characters in the series. It made me cry when everyone including the T'lan Imass and Rake showed their respect to him. He was an amazing character and he may show up later and I hope he does. His death was; I think tragic after everthing he did for Capustan.

I would rank Itkovian, alongside some characters from later in the series, as the strongest proof of Erikson's ability as a writer.

'Aye.' It's a good word. I think. More a whole attitude than a word, really. With lots of meaning in it, too. A bit of 'yes' and a bit of 'well fuck' and maybe some 'we're all in this together.' So a word to some up the Malazans. <Sunrise>

I may be wrong, but I think he's celibate, so that would make him a bad mother fantasizer at most :D
