It's taken sooooo long for the next book to come out that I've lost interest. Many of the storylines and names of characters have slipped out of my head as I've read other books. GRRM seems more interested in doing book signings and such. Does anyone really believe that he hasn't finished the book? Apparently he's been revising it for 3 or 4 years. Yeah, right. Most likely he's listening to his editor telling him, "Wait until the HBO series comes out, then you'll make a fortune." (At the expense of all of his original fans.) Great author, total disappointment. Sorry for the negative attitude, but c'mon bro.

This rant would make more sense if the timing wasn't all wrong- to get it published to coincide with the series, they'd have to have started the road to publishing by now. The tie-in republication of aGoT is already on its way, after all. Even if he announces it next week, which isn't out of the question judging by his comments when he got ill, it's unlikely to be out before summer, especially in the US.

I'm not quite sure where you got the idea that he's only been revising for all that time, either.

I tend to be on GRRM's side in this, although he's not blameless for the impatience, but I'd have a lot more sympathy for his critics if there wasn't such a tendency to making things up. I don't know where these things come from, but the idea that he's not writing the book but spends all his time doing his other stuff and blogging, just because he rarely mentions the book on the blog, seems to have become accepted by an awful lot of people as a fact that there's some actual evidence for awfully quickly, for example.

POLISH GENIUS-
You have brought up valid and legitimate points. I think we should just agree to disagree on this. That is what forums are for. Your argument was strong enough that I shall mute my GRRM criticisms for....a while, at least. More's the pity.....

Without wishing to sound facetious Polishgenius but concerning your forum name, are you of Polish ancestry or just rather good at dusting ?

I'm logically assuming it's the first but I can't get the image of a can of Mr Sheen out of my head whenever I read your posts.

Serious question, honest.
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

Hehe. Fair do's. To be fair I fully understand where people are coming from. Just the frustration sometimes seems to come across a bit strong...

:unworthy: You would not be the first person to associate me with Mr Sheen. But yes, I am Polish. Albeit of the British persuasion.

I'm just going to take it as an indication that my posts are shiny, in the Firefly sense of the word... :)

The part where they flash all the guys who have sat on the throne it's great.

OAlso, I don't remember Littlefinger sitting on the Iron Throne, especially not in AGoT. Am I wrong?

It's not guys who have sat on the Throne- it's just all the main characters of the series. Presumably to highlight the theme of ambition amongst them.

Jon and Dany are there, after all.

Ehm. I believe Ulrik is referring to the ASoIaF character called the Red Viper not to a show.

I would, however, give my left nut to see a mini-series prequel spinoff on the Red Viper. Oberyn Martell = the shit.

Yeh, it was sorta cool seeing everyone sit the iron throne - but we all know Bronn's ass will be on that chair by the end of the series.

Long live the King.

With such a good cast and HBO's history of making some terrific TV I am very much looking forwards to this. I suspect I will have to avoid all comparisons to the books and just enjoy the show for what it is.

Im really scared of the changes on this one from Books to Show. I really Really REALLY dont want to dissappointed. I suspect I wont be but it has been worrying me lately. We all know how most book to screen adapations go.

Look at the trailers. Look at the authorial endorsement and involvement. Look at the audience response.

So far, your hopes should be pretty high. They seem to have gotten the mood right - which is crucial.

Now quit being a baby and vote with your dollars for the good shit.

Well, each time weīll find people desperate (or angry) from fact, that some crucial scene, like dunno, Eddard taking dump at Kings Landing isnt involved... Iīll be prepared for them.

I know I probably should read the series, but I have to say that I might be, let us say "able" for lack of a better word, to better enjoy the tv series simply because I won't be expecting some, like Ulrik said, crucial scene like Eddard taking a dump on the throne or whatever.

That's the problem with most book, game, comicbook, whatever adaptions. There's always the rabid fanboys screaming and shouting that some ultimately irrelevant detail wasn't included.

Spoiler

In any case, I think I'll be better able to enjoy it without having seen it. ASoIaF is, I am told, nowhere near as complicated as Malazan book of the Fallen.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!
