I don't know if this has been discussed before, and I'm sure there are some dissenters out there, but does anyone else truly loathe Terry Goodkind's writing? I most surely do.

Oh don't you worry, bashing Goodkind is a hobby of this entire forum.

Here's everyone's favorite scene, the defining moment in the series if you will...

Quote

"Hissing, hackles lifting, the chicken's head rose. Kahlan pulled back. Its claws digging into stiff dead flesh, the chicken slowly turned to face her. It cocked its head, making its comb flop, its wattles sway. "Shoo," Kahlan heard herself whisper. There wasn't enough light, and besides, the side of its beak was covered with gore, so she couldn't tell if it had the dark spot, But she didn't need to see it. "Dear spirits, help me," she prayed under her breath. The bird let out a slow chicken cackle. It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken. This was evil manifest."-- Soul of the Fire

HAHAHAHA! That is a truly epic moment that will resound through the ages.

So im halfway though " Confesser " It is the last book right?

I hope so. I quite liked the first few books but they've become really preachy and seem to have endless rambling about this that and another. Say you or i would say. "That Cat is Black" In the book they say " The Cat is Black because of the angle of the colour refracting through the box's of truth and the seeker must destroy all if he is to make tea with the right consistency. If he doesn't then the dragons will all turn blue and as a result everyone will be in eternal pain from their love of black "

Now i have clearly oversimplified things but you get the picture.

I'm finding it very hard summoning up the energy to read the rest of the book and am only this far out of some bizarre OCD i have about finishing a series i have started.

I have the same OCD, especially after eleven books or whatever, but my friend had to literally confiscate the book from me because I was bitching so much about how abhorrently god damned awful it was.

Goodkind bashing is in fact, one of the things we all do best!

I feel a bit sick thinking of Goodkind.

I had about 5-6 of his books (Blind optomism in the hope they would improve) and got rid of them before Xmas. I couldn't condone burning books, so I gave them charity, but I worry about some poor unsuspecting soul picking them up and reading them, and it being all my fault.

My local charity shop has several Goodkind in all the time, and I smile to see it there. I was SHOCKED, SHOCKED I TELL YOU, to see an Erikson book in there, so I promptly bought it. Who would dare give GotM to a charity shop?!?!

Someone wishing to share the glory of SE to the less fortunate. I'm assuming the GOTM book was used thoroughly prior to donation.

What you should have done is buy all the Goodkind books and left the GotM. That way nobody else would needlessly have been subjected to Goodkinds books and somebody else would have read GotM creating another would be fan.

The first one is actually okay, except there's a bit too much torture and Sado Masochism in the end section, but it's a solid fantasy story. It some very cool ideas that Goodkind unfortunately never really realised. If only he had stopped at the first one.

I got a hundred pages into the 5th book and I gave up. That was just after the Evil Chicken passage and the revealation that this would be yet another book were the greatest wizard in the world would be of absolutly no use... just like the other four books.

I gave up half-way through book 3. Why? Because book one was mediocre, book two was shit, and book three was more shit. The only reason I even got that far was because my friend raved about how the Sword of Shit was the best fantasy series of all time.

Yeah, right....

The Mud People?? The annoying talking dog?? (it was a dog right? or was it a dragon? or both?) Omnipotent Wizzard who does bugger all - take a leaf from QB, or at least have a good reason for doing NOTHING, like Tay (so far). Silly Emperor villan character with his ridiculous way of talking. And Richard is a git.

There was an evil chicken! Kinda wish I had kept reading just for that. Then I could have pointed out that passage to all those poor misguided fans and defenders of Goodkind.

You're actually thanking people for reminding you? I would've ripped their heads off for reminding me of something awful that I had blissfully forgotten
Screw you all, and have a nice day!
