Terry Goodkind: Yes. My interest is in telling stories about heroic figures. In many ways, the fantasy genre is a hindrance to that and so I do consider other ways to tell stories that revolve around important human beings.
Yes, I can see how the fantasy genre might be a hindrance to telling stories about heroic figures....Oh no, wait, I can't.

I agree, in fantasy, most hero's are depicted far less flawed than the real stuff. The "true hero's" are more heroïc in our imagination. Therefore fantasy is THE genre for heroes. So far Hairy Badkind

Any time someone posts a Tairy quote, it's always a "nuff said" moment (other than the people posting "omg I can't believe he said that!!"). We'll return to bashing shortly, I'm sure.

Sure we will, once someone actually picks up the drivel he calls his new book for shits and giggles.
Although it is kind of ironic "the thread that will never die"...died.

really?
i thought we were having a few days silence in this thread in honour of Assail,
after all, our resident tame Badkind fan has now left the boards for the time being.

Perhaps we were, but we wouldn't want our bashing skillz to be rusty for when he does inevitably return, would we? It would actually look like Badkind and himself have a shred of credibility, and we all know that's ridiculous.

Assail is gone? But..why?
what's the point of bashing if no one is offended by it?

Okay, okay. I suppose I must take up Assail's mantle, even if neither my support nor cogency are to par.
Terry Goodkind is a very good author. Shall we debate?

its just not the same. but ill give it a try...
Great? oh come of it. thats not an adjective i'd use in relation to goodking or his works. perhaps 'morally unambiguous', or as tairy would put it, 'full of morall clarity'. another one is 'rapific' (derivied from rape, not rap). but my my personal favourite is 'trite, badly written, hyper annoying, headbang-inducing, eyebleed-causing garbage'. But thats just me
.
To be fair though, Goodking defeated me. He is the first author whose written series I just couldn't finish. So, kodos for that old tairy.

Never tried his books, but my friends dad says that the SOT series is good....
I don't know if I want to try this or not.

You do, you need to know what truly bad fantasy is, so that you can recognize it when you see it.
The first one is okay but escessive. The second one has it's moments but is ultimatly flawed and the ending ruins it. The third one is shit. The fourth will make you so angry you'll be in danger of getting an anurisme. The fifth has an evil chicken as a bad guy, that was where I stopped some 100 pages in.

SOT might seem good for those who aren't that much of a fantasy readers (I mean most of us are veterans in reading) and don't read that much. Then again, I read every shred of fantasy at the local library and have to say MBotF is the absolute best (well, next to the works of Grandfather Fantasy himself, Tolkien) I ever read
If you have read much, SOT is a bit simpleminded, to much into ethics (and rape)

Bit too much into Richard-worship. That's the most annoying thing about the books to me.

Okay, sorry. I can't even bring myself to try to defend it assail-style.
I will, however, say that it is an excellent 'popcorn' read if you skim past the preachy sections. Lots of entertaining pointless battles/fights.
