Has anyone made a character with high unarmed or melee skills? Is it worth the time?

I personally haven't, but I could see it being worth the time when you gets weapons like the autoaxe, that thing is beast.

My problem with that type of combat is that you will take hits running close to the enemy to melee, as opposed to sitting back and safe with a sniper or whatever. They have a minigun and suddenly you have to run through a bulletstorm to reach your target.

Or rocket launchers and flamethrowers. Oh how I hate flamethrowers, I will willingly sprint in to a room filled with raiders as long as I can just get a clear shot at the flamethrower on the back of random asshole nr. 3788.

I got a buddy making an unarmed guy right now, I'll let you now how it goes. I might go melee next time around just to do it, auto axe and shock sword are awesome. Figure I'll concentrate on criticals, damage resistance, health and explosions for out of range guys.

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

So, I decided to look into these "expansions" for Fallout.

Can it really be right that they're charging "800 Microsoft points" for both Operation Ancheorage and The Pitt? That's roughly the equivelant of 8 pounds or something for each. How long are they and what do I get for that amount of money?

Anyone played them both through and through?

I don't want to give money to microsoft :p

Well to be fair you're giving money to Bethesda. You get around 3 hours for Ancorage and up to 6 with the Pitt if you do everything. You do get some serious perks with the Pitt though, like being able to make ammo from other ammo and scrap metal, sweet guns, and a boost to evverything.

played them both, liked them both. Yea it costs money, but I'm a bethesda fanboy since they own at every game they make hehe, they are one of the absolute best Western RPG developers, along with Bioware and maybe a few other companies.

The Dlc is a little bit short for $10, but I look at it like going to the movies, you pay like $10 and get amused for about 2 hours.

Operation Anchorage was okay, but I'm waiting until Broken Steel comes out before I get the Pitt. I was a bit cheesed off to have done everything in OA and not gained a level (since I'd hit the level cap from the original game). Broken Steel raises the cap to Level 30 (I think), so I'll do that and then The Pitt to get the maximum benefit out of them.

If you're starting a new game, doing OA early can be hugely rewarding as you get some Brotherhood Power Armour and some sick weapons straight off the bat for completing that mission.

Wert is correct that the Level Cap is raised from Broken Steel, so he is going about it the right way. I wanted them rightaway so I have a save file before I embarked on the quests, and I plan on making a new character.

Yeah, it was supposed to be in a week or two, but with the delay of The Pitt, Broken Steel got pushed back a little bit as well.
So I'd guess early to mid May as well, the others came out late in the month like 23rd and such, so we'll see.

Makes sense it would take longer though, since it is supposed to be bigger and picks up from the main story.

Lots of Fallout news broke yesterday.

First off, there was this preview of Broken Steel, which picks up after the end of the first game and expands the level cap to Level 30. It looks like a very solid expansion and I'm looking forward to it. It is released on 5 May.

Secondly, in an impressive display of circular reasoning, Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment (Knights of the Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights II) have joined forces to produce Fallout: New Vegas. This will be a stand-alone RPG 'spin-off' from Fallout 3, likely using the same engine but with a new story. Think of the relationship between GTA3 and Vice City. Obsidian are, of course, the successor company to Black Isle, who wrote and created the original Fallout and Fallout 2, with some designers from those games still working for them. Obsidian are also notably better than Bethesda at doing character and writing, and given those elements, whilst acceptable, were not outstanding in FO3, it'll be great to see improvements in those areas. Fallout: New Vegas will be released in 2010, whilst Bethesda's core team are already working on a new project (rumoured to be The Elder Scrolls V, with possibly a fully-fledged FO3 expansion pack to be released first).

In less happy news, Bethesda are involved in a legal tussel with Interplay over Fallout Online. According to their contract, Interplay were supposed to raise $30 million in funding for the project by 4 April 2009, which apparently they failed to do. Interplay, who have already started work on the projected with the original core designer of the first Fallout game working on it, are disputing this claim. This one could turn nasty, since an MMORPG based on the 5 million+ selling Fallout 3 could potentially do huge business for whichever company ends up controlling it.

Elder Scrolls V should have been started practically before Fallout 3 was released. That's how Beth does their dev cycle - or how they used to, in any case.

The New Vegas announcement was interesting, and I'm looking forward to that.

Broken Steel will be the best of the three DLC's, simply because of the expanded level cap and the ability to play on after the main quest is complete. ^^
I'm waiting for that, and couldn't care less about the other two until it comes out.

I need to make a new character since I logged too much exp after hitting the level cap. I do have a save before I played the other DLCs but I doubt there is enough to get me to lvl 30 without exploring the wastes for hours on end, which I have already done. Luckily there is plenty to do so I may or may not.

I agree with you though Silencer, Bethesda develops their games in that type of a cycle but I thought I saw an interview with Todd Howard saying that they were currently working on a few other projects though so I'm not sure if they are doing the same thing this time around. I hope so though, I love the Elder Scrolls.

The announcement of the novel interview caused quite a stir on their forums. There was a question about what the novels would mean in relation to future releases, and (I believe it was Pete Hines) the guy being interviewed replied that "We haven't got to those yet".
Somehow, the guy who started that thread and a few others took this as "we haven't started work on TES:V" rather than "we haven't considered what we'll do with it in regards to future releases".

Obviously Bethesda can't up and contradict them, else they'll have rabid fans screaming for screenshots/concept art/videos...but how does one misconstrue a statement this much? XD
It's quite possible that they're not working on #5 yet...but I doubt it. It's far too lucrative for them to leave it - the plan was 1 TES game, then a Fallout, then a TES game. Now, either that's changed, or TES:V is due out by the end of 2011 at the latest. Seriously, games based on existing lore and probably on an existing engine cannot take more than 7 years to do. I say seven, as Oblivion released in 04 - they would have had at least some people working on the story for the fifth game back then, as well as concept art - they don't just say 'our dev of the next game starts now' and then have the entire team start on it with nothing beforehand, ffs.
If, on the other hand, they were going to use a new engine, or plan to release with the next gen of consoles...that changes things. It also means they'll have to do whole bunch of stuff like full expansions for Fallout 3 and such, else they'll probably go bankrupt and fade into obscurity, as they can't survive without a release in that time frame.

>.>

This probably should have gone in the Oblivion thread. :(

oh well.

What I was referring to was an audio interview by some xbox guys with Howard, maybe about a few months before the release of Fallout 3. I agree that with such a lucrative franchise development should have begun. Perhaps Bethesda was keeping things close to their chests, after all those rabid fans would want all the info if it exists heh.

But when Bethedsa was talking about other projects they also have been developing WET and Rogue Warrior. So I'm not sure how many people they have working for them but they seem to have a lot on their plate. I do like the idea of a release to co-incide with the next next-gen console since it is basically when TES:IV was released.

edit: with their other games like WET, etc. maybe those are just being published by Bethesda not quite sure on that.
