It's not a complex, but a house that has apartments in the basements. Before last summer the landlords lived upstairs and were quiet as death. They moved into their own house and rented the upstairs portion as is logical. The problem was, the tenants upstairs never said a thing about having a daycare. There is minimum soundproofing but it isn't up to code, but it wasn't a problem before, now it is.
They don't want to renovate the whole house to get up to code. The reason is that they want to sell the property in the near future (2 years minimum) and develop it into high density residential. They don't want to invest so much for such a short period as far as they are concerned. There is an obvious hole in that logic. Why allow the daycare to expand and do minor renovation to accommodate (a bit cheaper than tearing down all the ceilings and walls I'll admit) if it's only going to be gone soon?
There are also a lot of other logical holes to the point where I think something crooked is going on. After 3 years of having no problems what so ever it's rather disheartening to think that my otherwise fair landlords have suddenly turned. Though to be honest I think it has more to do with their wishywashiness that's put them in a corner and now they're panicking. Still some things don't fit that theory and I only hope I'm paranoid, or this is going to be long.
I'm going to fight this but I'm going to hedge my bets as well.
What's your lease say?
