OK, my little complaint is nowhere near as bad as Jusen's (a curse on all airlines that still gouge and gouge and gouge) but I just had my first experience with mothballs and now I feel all woozy and gross. I had to scatter some out on my back deck to drive away some feral cats that were using the thing as their own personal litterbox except that I had no idea how horrible they smell...at least, not until I opened the box and nearly passed out. :p

Anyway, I've washed my hands a few dozen times and even put some Vicks VapoRub under my nose but the stench won't go away! I almost regret trying to reclaim my deck...almost...

Hey hey, its got nothing to do with those damned unwashed peasants. I just hate kids on airplanes. And kids on a 10-14 hour flight would probably make me *dum da dee da dum dum dum go away Mr. NSA* And kids don't fly business or 1st. Likewise, less loud fat people complaining about shit. Well worth the extra money in my book to have a nice peaceful flight... So yeah, I don't hate people for being poor or cheap, just for being fat, stupid, annoying and abominably ugly, or for daring to bring their tick-like children on a plane with them. :p

Luftie only has a couple flights I can reasonably get to (NYC or DC), and they're the ones in the 5k range. And I got my money back from my previous flight, but even if I had been booked first class on Virgin it wouldn't cover these prices. (Sadly, they don't go to germany... cause if I'm gonna pay this much for a seat, it might as well be a the best commercial seat there is)

and the c130 is perfectly legit. If you're active military personnel (or family of). And its free. But my god, does it ever suck. Though I don't even know if they do that anymore. But it sucks too much to consider.


Me thinks its time for a nice angry drive down the Bay front



@Zanth: Every done it from hawaii to japan? Don't even think we were halfway before I was considering grabbing one of the parachutes and jumping out.

Driving long range in a high performance car to get a more reasonably priced flight is unfeasble as well, due to gasoline prices. A real bind, does one scrape together the cash to drive to another airport, or bite the bullet and fly from NYC.

well, I live closer to DC, than NYC. but those are pretty much the only two american hubs I can go to. I'm not taking a jaunt to Chicago to catch a flight that's 20% off, nuh-uh.

And gas isn't that expensive over here, still under 3$ a gallon 'till summer it looks like, and I get about 22-25 miles to a gallon typically, so its not so bad to drive a couple hundred miles.

for $1000 I'd drive to cork, and back. Hell I'd do it twice, but there are some fine strip clubs in the city.
That's me though, I have a reasonable car that'll pile out about 60 miles per gallon of my precious fuel. alas though its a pitiful little thing, I think it tops out at a measly 110 miles per hour*.





*think, obviously, my car has never been past 70 miles an hour.

and its not like I wouldn't drive normally to save that much, but to get to chicago by departure time, I think I'd have to have left about five hours ago. And thats supposing it isnt that special time of the month for all the dick cops between here and there.

But you're right, there's simply no way my tidly little seat leon could average 60 mpg on my run home from Belfast, a journey I so rarely undertake it's probably not worth noting the consumption rate on my vehicle.
I suppose I should reign in my wild claims a bit, after all, if Seat project an average 57 mpg on a mixed run cycle, I shouldn't argue in the slightest, they know better than I. But lets face it, that 57 is probably a barefaced lie by Seat, after all, I would push the ball out there were I them, try to sell a few more in these financially tight times. I'd say its really 33mpg or something like that

Or maybe, just maybe, I actually do average 60+ mpg door to door from Belfast to home (that's a mixed urban, motorway and back road run of about 75 miles) and you're so full of shit that I can't actually be sure that you keyboard isn't so covered in the substance that you're unaware of what you're actually typing anymore.

No-one cares that your "car pops 200" because lets face it, it doesn't. There's not a whole lot of cars out there that hammer through the old 200mph barrier on a routine basis and they're damn expensive, again see my above complaint, unless off course you've souped up an older car.
Ok, lets go down that route, you've taken an older/ lower profile vehicle, and put so much new hardware under the bonnet that its a super tank, hell, you put a bit of nos in there for the craic, so it runs nines.
Are you remotely aware how expensive that would be?
If you're firing that kind of coin about, you dont give a shit about you're $5000 flight, and let face it, you wouldnt drive for 20% saving because whats $1000 but 5 kgs off that pimped super wagon lying in the garage.

Ugh, the fumes were the worst. And the walls get cold, at least at night. I remember I got up to stretch and put my hand out and brushed the wall-thing to the cargo bay. Lost a layer of skin like that kid with his tongue and a flagpole in that "classic" movie. Apparently though, the flight was only ten hours, not the twenty I remember. Probably the vapor high stretched it out.
