But ideally in another year or two I'll be in a position to get out of the game

I'm currently spending three days of my holiday taking care of my sister's dog. Barking really helps you focus when you are writing an application

Because I'm an idiot and forgot my laptop art work last week, we took my mom's laptop camping in order to watch the World Cup games.
Yesterday it turned out her LCD screen somehow got crushed (probably some poor packing job)
So now I have to look for a new laptop for her. And she hates everything that came after Windows 10, so I got the additional constraint of trying to find a Win 7 lappy for her, somehow.

Just replace the screen, super easy and cheap.

Work Meeting
Boss: Lets do all these really cool things!
Us: Sure, lets talk budget.
Boss: You just draw up all the plans, I am sure it won't cost much. Money will turn up
Sometimes I think he lives in a fairy world.

This is definitely a "messing with groove", but also a general holding hands up and smiling wryly at my own naivete sort of moment.
My friend's soon-to-be-ex-husband makes wooden furniture. Before they split up he'd agreed to make me a bookcase, and to colour match it to my existing TV unit and coffee table.
It somehow took him over six months to finish it, with increasingly paper thin excuses. Somewhere in that time frame their marriage broke down. The other week he finally appears to drop off said bookcase, supposedly colour matched (to photos I had to send three times).
Predictably, the colour matching is nothing like. After some handwringing he offers to re-stain it, and left it with me. Yet again we get increasingly unlikely excuses for not turning up, and culminating in "Oh, I've just remembered I waxed and varnished it so I'd need to strip it to re-stain it. Boo hoo that's so much more work."
Anyway, the more I've been looking at the thing I'd started to wonder about this "beeswax and varnish" job. There's no shine on the wood and it still feels grainy. Friend came round last night, laughed at the beeswax and varnish statement, and the upshot is that we're off to find an oil next week and we'll be finishing the bookcase ourselves. As the TV unit and coffee table were matching handmade pieces from an Ebay seller I've fired a message off asking if they can recommend a product/colour, but even without that we should be able to find something suitable. I've since done the finger nail scratch and water tests - there's no finish on the piece whatsoever.
Lesson learned - never pay up before receiving the item and being wholly satisfied, and don't use a "friend".
Somebody's getting a one star review - normally I don't do that, I just omit to leave positive feedback. But after months of clearly being lied to, tough sh*t, you reap what you sow.

Please don't let this experience stain your view of all woodworkers.

While I appreciate the effort, you're all just living in Tiste's "joke shadow". He utterly nailed it first time out.

The Khoisan people have officially declared their secession from my country and claimed the entire eastern half of South Africa as their own. This is patently absurd and no one takes it seriously but still wow. More seriously though is the Zulu King has threatened civil war if his rights as King in the western half and his ability to keep his people as his peasants is not respected. This one is actually quite a serious political matter. In the meantime nothing gets done that needs to get done.

I've done 4.5 days work in 3.5 and have urgent things in the old inbox that if I don't do will have escalated to be even worse next week and the stress of not doing them will screw with my weekend. But it's been like this since May and I'm soooooo tired I just want to tell everyone at work to fuck off.
