Wow 3 people on this forum have had experiences with pedophiles! That is messing with my groove. Another reminder that its more common than you would like to think.

Fantastic that all of you managed to fight against them.

It's disturbingly more common than most prod think, even with the media coverage it usual garners. An awful awful lot of it isn't reported because it's a family member involved or a close family friend

And even then, often it doesn't make news because 1) it isn't high profile, 2) it's not newsworthy, 3) it doesn't make it to court because the child can't say 'penis' or 'vagina' and a person can't be charged for touching a 'woohoo' or 'peepee'.

Seriously, the greatest thing a parent can do to prevent abuse/ongoing abuse is to use proper anatomical names for sexual organs and to teach body safety to their kid from 2 years old. Stats show it drastically reduces the chance of molestation and grooming because the child is seen as 'high risk'. The more vocal the child is about body safety the better. The fact that most perpetrators are family members or close friends means you should actually advertise your child's body safety awareness. We have our family body safety rules on the wall in two prominent places in our house. We also emailed all of our friends and family an email explaining that we were teaching Rip body safety, explaining what our body safety rules involved, and asking people not to use words that weren't anatomically correct.

As for teaching, we have taught body agency since birth, mostly through books such as No Means No, Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept, Who Has What? etc. We never force physical contact and applaud when he chooses to say no to a hug or a kiss.

Seriously, if your kid doesn't say 'vulva', 'vagina', 'anus', or 'penis' you really should address that asap. It's not about propriety or decorum- it can literaly save them from being abused.

Edit: there's a lot of statistics on this out there but it's almost 3am and I can't be bothered going to my pc where I have them bookmarked.

The new version of iTunes out today (12.7) quietly wipes out the App Store and your access to your own App library. That change was not mentioned in the update notes. Seems like Apple now only wants you to be able to download apps directly to your device. So years of apps and games I've bought which have dropped off the store due to developers going under or iOS obsolescence are all gone. They're still on my hard drive but inaccessible. WTF.

The twist is that you're allowing such silliness. Send the kids in to wake them up, then YOU go back to sleep.

Thanks for the support all. Started him last night and we've picked up all his electronic internet enabled devices. They will all be scanned and analysed and then we'll interview him again with all the evidence. Should get a trip to court. Feel good about it. :D

Sorry to hear about your grandma BK.

Fortunately it's just another threat/test missile as far as we know. Japan didn't bother to shoot it down as it passed overhead and I believe we're all still skeptical of NK's ability to launch a missile with an actual nuclear warhead on it at this stage (they need to miniaturise first).

Fingers crossed its just more posturing.

That's NK's grand plan - constantly underperform and the lull the world into a false sense of security. They're very committed to the plan. :D

You know that moment when you realize that speaking up and pointing out all the things wrong with current projects will only get you more work and no tangible reward? That moment has been the entire week for me.

Fucking airlines. How can it be ok to delay flights such that people either miss or almost miss connections? Not sure which it will be for me yet, but so fucking stressed. Sick and tired of traveling, esp when kids are present.

Why do kids say they don't need to go even when on the toilet and then 10 min later have an urgent need to go. And then tag team so they don't go at the same time maximizing the number of times you cannot sit down....

I am starting to stagger my flights to have longer layovers in order to avoid this. Missing my flight is worse than waiting a couple hours in an airport.

Also, you gotta realize that being in motion for long periods of time, especially on a plane assisted journey - is both fun and stressful for a kid. Build in bathroom breaks every three hours or so for little ones. Just get em in there and it'll make your life easier.

I have babysat all too much and will have my own kid in a couple years if things line up right. There's not really a set amount of planning that can ward off everything, but having built in schedule flexibility is a terrific idea when moving with youngsters.
