I just saw the video of Dennis Skinner (British labour MP) scolding the british health minister. I don't know who this guy is or what he's done, but I'm in love.

Edit: I forgot to write half my post.
This is going on my nerves because if the British government succeeds in ramming these down doctor's throats, you know what all other governments are going to think about labourers they have to pay.

I was sitting on the couch, quietly watching an episode of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo, with one earphone in listening to Disturbed, when my loving but ruthless son decided to sneak up behind me with one of my facehugger plushies and smash it into my face.

Which made me drop the last piece of cookie dough.

Before our cat, Kalam, appeared out of nowhere to eat it.

The struggle is real.

He's a bit of an institution is Dennis. He was a coal miner and has been a Labour MP since the 70s. Jeremy Hunt deserves a lot worse than being told to stop smirking. The Conservative government are purposefully trying to undermine and destabilise the NHS so that more people will support privatisation when they try to sell it off so Hunt is loving the disruption caused by the strikes. He is claiming that the strikes are putting patients at risk but it's a load of bull. Two friends gave birth yesterday and everyone is fine and received good care. I can't get a consultants appointment that I need this week because they are all filling in for the juniors on strike but the midwives found a workaround for me which will mean waiting around in hospital for ages and talking to a doctor a bit later than ideal but I don't give a toss if it means Hunt doesn't win on this.

Have been at my job long enough to get 4 weeks vacation allotted to me this year. Which seemed great. I have used a few days here and there for one week, two more weeks have already been allotted to be right after the baby is born so I'm home to help....and I'd assumed I could use the 4th week in the summer for a week at the cottage. Apparently not. Rules have it that the 4th week can't be used till October. Guess I'm taking Christmas week off. Jeez, what a stupid rule.

Spent two hours in two bus trips cramming my long legs into cramped seats. Essentially spent that entire time getting my kneecaps hammered by the steel frame of the seat in front of me. Legs hurt so much now I can barely walk

You have to take annual leave instead of paid parental leave? Or is the annual leave you're taking in addition to paid parental leave? We get 2 weeks paid parental (Dad) leave here. Or you can take 4 weeks at half pay.

I could take Paternity leave....but my company would just find some reason to fire me 6months later for doing it. So I'm not. Even my co-workers who have been there for ten years or so agree that's what would happen. Can't risk it. So sadly, I have to use 2 weeks of my own vacation.

Today is April 28th.

I woke up shivering. The weather outside? +1, feels like minus 2.

It is. Fiddler got some birthday cake out of me through the other half making me jump the other day.

Out of interest - just how many of us on here have pets named for the books? :)

It snowed on me on Tuesday in the UK and I'd gone out without wearing a coat or socks! Madness.

Yup, pretty much the boat I was in, except I was cackling madly with glee, capering like a maddened Pust.

My toes are starting to look like cocktail sausages at the end of each day so I quite enjoyed having very cold feet.

Do 'The first one', 'The soul destroying one', 'Fuck you, Kallor!', 'The anti-climatic one', 'The funny one', 'LEOMAN!!!', and 'The unfinished snore-fest' count as pet names?

Edit: I misread what you were asking.

We have three cats - Whiskeyjack, Raraku, and Kalam.
