Ugh I hate beer. It's nasty, smelly, and makes my legs hurt. Big turn off to smell it on a lady I want.

When I did drink before I learned it was helping to cause my pain I'd just get a lime, salt & put in Corona but I really liked XX Amber. Hmmm

Totally with you, except the hurting legs part.

Stella's not that cheap. Not that good either.
At least, in Canada.

I'm a French/Belgian beer kinda guy, so Stella and Kronenburg are my go-to beverages. I finds 'em tasty.

Do me a favor and go to the Bier Markt and try some of the French and Belgian glorybrews they have and then come back here and we'll talk.

I am not a hipster. Why on earth would I do that?

Because you're abusing yourself with mass produced crap and we can't be friends.

But I always come back to my big three: Stella, Kronenburg, and Sapporo. All three of which I drink often and enjoy. Oh, and if I'm feeling matly I'll grab Innis & Gunn.
...

Sapporo and Innis... Ok we can be friends.

That's because Canada is on the North American continent, and we all know microbrews from there are just awful.

Not friends.

If you can chance upon it, I very much recommend Saltaire's Double Chocolate Stout. One of the smoooooooooooooooothest most delectable beers I've ever had. Extremely deep flavour, too. I could drink that for days.

Ok, friends.

Abyss, can I get this at the LCBO? If so, I shall pick some up to try post-haste.

Only ever had it down south... Checking lcbo site... Computer says no.

Oh alcohol dehydrates me and sends my nerves into overdrive on top of my normal nerve pain in legs and arms. It's strange

No, you're strange.

Now, let's not go overboard. I love the microbrews of North America. The selection and the quality is astonishing. However, I don't think there's a country in the world able to compete with Belgium when it comes to beer and brewing culture.

I would argue Canada has comparable, but you're not wrong. Friend.

Abyss - if you ever chance upon DBC Beers, I very much recommend Chesil. Lager hops but brewed as an ale. It sounds like it shouldn't work but I love that stuff.

On a related note, went for a blood test today to see if they can pin down exactly why I can't consume, among a whole host of other things, beer anymore. Now we play the waiting game.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

What does it do to you? My mum's been unable to eat a lot of things recently and it culminated in her having her gall bladder out on Monday gone. Hopefully it'll not be that severe for you.

Basically I've previously thought I was either intolerant or allergic to, milk, processed pork/chicken, an orange food colouring, eggs, and beer, which I'd assumed were all different allergies. It was only when I had a couple of rare steak meals with entirely different sides that I felt the illest that sort of thing has ever made me, and then after a recent weekend of feeling like crap from a nice meal I had cooked for I got off my ass and went to the doc's. They heard the list I just told you, said that there was no way I had that many different allergies, asked me a few questions, and then (gross info warning) told me I most likely had a type of IBS and one part of this blood test is to see whether it's inflammable or irritable. Really, though, finding out that there's one single likely cause for all this is a huge relief after ages of not knowing. Downside is my arm is a tiny bit sore and there's video games to play on my day off!

Sounds very much like what mother dearest had, then. Hopefully it'll clear up.

As to the games, well. Depends what you're playing. Trying to wham an arcade stick about after being stuck isn't my idea of fun.

They checked that first, it isn't. We'll find out soon enough.

:) gluten wouldn't account for the issues w/ meat.

On the topic of beers: for my family, it's a seasonal thing-we usually don't buy beer in the winter (of course, when I go away for New Year's partying, this doesn't apply). As a general rule we're Lager people- me and my dad stick to East European staples like L'vivs'ke (bonus points for being brewed in my hometown), Beck's and the Slovakian beer "Golden Pheasant". I'm also generally a fan of Grolsch. My mom likes Duvel.

Messing with my groove-the sheets of rain that were hurled at me by wind on the way to work. And are now hitting my windows, forcing me to turn on the lights in the morning. Also, realization that I probably won't get to go swimming tonight due to the psycho weather.

Ah some non-beer posts! How come there isn't an alcoholic thread in the Inn? Or is there?

Messing with my groove: My GF is quite sick but still has to attend mandatory training, plus her regular doctor is out of town.

Well, there was the Watching Trickster Pub thread, but ever since the resident barman Darkwatch moved on to bigger and better things, it's been basically abandoned.

Can a blood test confirm that God hates you? Because that seems like the most likely reason.

....or possibly celiac or ibs.But I would check with a priest just to be sure.

I think you'd be surprised.
Yeah the meat itself is GF (if its unadulterated) but most kind of seasoning has the potential to undermine that.
As do any cross contaminated utensils used to serve.
As well as serving areas.
And then there's the side dishes.
Basically, there's so much naturally GF food that we (celiacs) can't eat because of seasoning, prep and cross-contamination.
It's worse that you'd imagine.

I certainly can't drink beer.

Mmmk.
