Trivial compared to the experiences above, but I just found out my workload and stress levels are going to go through the roof for the next month. I was delighted to be able to get the opportunity to help out on the production of a feature film here in my home city, and gradually get to learn the ropes. Instead, the person who I was helping (and learning from) has had to withdraw due to health problems, and now I'm suddenly going to be doing most of what she was doing as well as my stuff. I haven't a clue, so I'll be petrified about forgetting something for the next few weeks.

If I survive the next week, it will end up looking great on my CV. Fingers crossed

So My Phd:

I can't do Xray difraction because the diffractometer has been on the fritz for over 2 months. (nothing to do with me but its causing me grief)

I can't do HDMX because the column I need broke. (nothing to do with me but its causing me grief)

I cant do fluorescence because the software for the instrument is crashing (I discovered it yesterday)

I cant do Circular Dichroism because in the middle of my experiment today the machine packed up while I was using it.

Where are you doing your PhD? Soviet Russia?

One of the lads here at work just told me about the new Breaking Bad s6, knowing I was planning on watching the while thing soon (stopped watching after s3 and never got back into it) and inadvertently gave away MAJOR spoilers.
Like, possibly, THE spoiler!!

Maybe you should break bad on your coworker. For the record though, there is no BB season 6 so your coworker might be a liar on top of being dim.

Yeah sorry, I should have clarified.
There is a season 6 in production. As we speak.

Can't post the link, because that too contains spoilers.

It's not real. You've been bamboozled by your coworker and the Internet.

Nah, the article he's talking about is from a news website with a fake entertainment reporter (there's an article about Fight Club 2 as well). The Internet is dark and full of people who think they are The Onion but don't stack up, ie people who think telling a lie is the same as satire.

Hmm a storm came through and knocked out power that flickered for 3 surges before finally going out while I was playing Destiny. Now my Ps4 is being all kinds of funky and when I looked for my receipt I find that the ink has faded. Wtf Walmart? I sure hope I don't have to take it back and get an attitude from a disbelieving clerk

Ed: all seems fine now. Guess it was just pissy not wanting to warm back up. Still that receipt has me agged

Pro tip: photocopy every receipt of whatever you know you want to keep the receipt of around. Tack the original to the copy. These things have a way of fading very fast.

It's usually thermal paper so heat and therefore light tends to fade them. Definitely what Puck said.

Photocopying works, but in the absence of a photocopier/possible losing of the physical receipt, I take pictures of the receipt and stick them in a desktop folder for any eventuality.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

That's a comic book. I said he's a fake entertainment reporter, not a fake nerd hard news reporter.

This news report is seriously boiling my piss, is there no end to the depravities people are capable of?
Is it any wonder that there's a global culture of mistrust towards Politicians and world leaders?
How can corruption and inequality begin to be addressed, when the people doing the so-called "mediation" are up to these tricks.
It's a fuckin disgrace.
I'm obviously so disappointed, but even more gutted to find that I was surprised.
Why did I think anyone was above reproach?

Hayfever. Pretty sure I have not had a proper night's sleep since the beginning of May, and it's starting to show. I can't concentrate on ANYTHING. And work isn't helping.
