This from the country that exports Fosters? Really? At least the Canuks export some ok beer.

Yes but Fosters is Australia's cruel joke on the world, nobody here actually drinks it. We do however have some rather nice local beers we keep to ourselves :The Force:

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I've seen Fosters being sold in a store. I wouldn't even know where to find it if I did want it. But then I can always get XXXX if I want to buy piss masquerading as beer. :p

Q: Why is American beer like having sex in a canoe?
A: They're both fucking close to water.

:The Force:

Yes, let's denounce the largest craft beer market in the world with a nonsensical joke. If anything, Australia is the worst first tier continent to get craft beers on.

Shut it.

It's a beer. Yes, there's going to be some problems, dangerous situations and perhaps loss of coordination or reduction of quality of sobriety. Know what helps people deal with bad situations like this? Humor and a willingness to face reality. Both are amply displayed by people in this thread and one of us is sorta in the shitty beer zone too. Plenty of us (including me) have reached out to friends and family in the area to make sure they're okay.

They're ok.

Some people won't have that type of support network. They have the media screaming (obnoxiously at times) for them to go here, get out of there and to get these beers. Most will do so and be just fine. Others might not. That may or may not be of their choosing. It's life. Things happen, despite the best efforts of collective millions.

Go plop your raining on our beer laugh parade stuff elsewhere. Play video games, work, enjoy some time with your animals and loved ones and keep the snarky comments to yourself because the Beerpocalypse is upon us.

Wow, fellas, I don't even drink. My parents were "silenced" by an international beer consortium, and I've just never felt right about it.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Tesco self service checkout. 4am and I'm buying alcohol. This needs to be approved by a qualified member of staff. Are there any of the lazy bastards around at 4am? Are there bollocks.

I work the night shift so tend to do my shopping at strange hours. I don't have an alcohol problem. Well, I do, but that's not the point, the point is why have a store with 24 hour opening when you can't bloody buy anything because the bone idle, workshy fop is out the back having a bleedin' cigarette?

I hope Australia drowns in drop bears.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Whenever I open The Guardian, I get video-adds telling me America cannot afford 4 more years of Obama, how debt will go from 16 (with a lot of zeroes) to 20 (with a lot of zeroes), how 20 million jobs will be lost, and that I should support Romney (brought to me by Romney Victory Ltd or some other Super PAC).

Now, I don't mind political ads.
I DO mind a political add that says it is based on my search results yet is diametrically opposed to them. I also don't like spoken adds. I am at work, dammit.

Yes, let's denounce the largest craft beer market in the world with a nonsensical joke. If anything, Australia is the worst first tier continent to get craft beers on.

'Largest' is mostly tied to 'biggest population' and partly to 'biggest beer drinking population' :p
Since the term craft beer is tied to limits on amounts of production, it kind of means that the larger the market, the more craft beer breweries are required in absolute numbers to satisfy the demand. It says nothing about the % of the population that wants to drink something other than pilsner/lager (aka, to satisfy the same niche demand in percentage of the population between the US and say, Belgium, one would require many more craft beer breweries in the US).

I won't disagree on the staggering amount of choice that's being offered to customers in US stores. Ours tend to be a lot smaller in nature than what I have seen in the US (for the five days I was there :D), though there are a lot of bars with an insane amount of different beers available here.
I'll also say that craft beers is thoroughly Anglo-American in application and measurements. I am sure there are a lot of abbey beers and tiny breweries that would fall under the norm in Western Europe, if they but cared/ were inventorized. Being a craft beer isn't a hallmark or selling point on the continent, really, and therefore less interesting to be branded one.

I'll have to take exception to the word commie. If I were Norwegian, that socialist care-taker state that calls to me in my dreams as the epitome of what a paradise state would be like, I would be proud of that badge (and I'd be too if I lived in Denmark or Sweden). In the privatized Netherlands, not so much anymore :p

Realised last night that I live in world where not everyone recognises Captain Hammer. It was most upsetting.
