Just found out that out of the 35 people I work with, 14 of us are going to get made redundant. We have to 'reapply' for our own jobs, which are now limited to a few.
This is made even more crappy by the fact that the 2 managers (who are probably at least partly responsible, via poor financial management, for the situation) are the ones who's jobs are safe, and get to choose who stays.
We get interviewed, as this is supposedly 'fair' to everyone, but they've made slight changes to the job descriptions we're reapplying for, that in some cases mean that some people are ruled out straightaway. It's all being monitored by the union, but it all looks decidedly dodgy to me.
The gods alone know what I'll do if I lose this job... i left a perfectly good profession to do a degree, got a student loan to pay for it, worked to get 8 years experience, and now I might be out of a job.
AND... just before the meeting in which they told us about this, they had a load of students from the local college round to tell them what a great prospective career they could have.
Tasteless or what.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
