I literally live with a playground outside my house. We get all sorts of low level drama. It's great when the kids can go and mess around for a bit but it honestly causes more issues than it's worth (IMO). Nothing major by any stretch but I do get you.

ah, local crackheads.

I live next to a mini asda so I think I know what sort of stuff you mean.

I don’t know if it’s an actual craze or just heavily marketed but WTF is the deal with Sesh/Zyn and similar products. Are people really going back to chewing Tabacco? It’s 2026. Why?

I can see why soldiers might not want to light a cigarette for fear of snipers but why else would you chew Tabacco?

Moya Brennan from Clannad passed away aged 73. What a sad day. And I never got to see them in concert.

She was amazing, what a great voice in a great band. :crybaby:

and the classic Chicane track Saltwater with samples from the above plus extra vocals

Yeah, I saw this because her sister Enya mentioned it on socials. SUPER sad. Clannad were a big part of my youth.

My Dad (he's 79) has had a parathyroid tumor for the last 3-4 years and the various doctors involved have all disagreed on how to deal with it, and finally settled on surgery to remove it but the surgeon had a family emergency and was out for a month or more and was not going to be back till mid-May. The tumor has messed with his hypertension and he's struggled to find a med that works and allows his lifestyle (he tries to stay active), but eventually settled on one that seemed to work.

The other day my dad was experiencing sweats and chest pain and dizziness, so he went to Emergency and was in all day doing various tests, eventually the Angiogram they did showed that while his heart has no damage, the vessels around it had a hardening that the doctor seems to feel is due to the parathyroid tumour mucking with hypertension in the last few years. As such he's been scheduled for Bypass surgery as soon as they can get him in.

I realize that these surgeries are common and the fact that his heart is undamaged are good things, but he's still pushing 80 and going in for bypass surgery so that freaks me out. It's only been a few years since losing my mom, and I can't lose my dad too. I hope it goes well, but my anxiety is of course causing me issues.

thanks man.

He met the surgeon last night and he said she was really nice and knowledgeable and that she seems to think he's in good shape to have this done. A 1% chance of stroke or death, but good odds. He seems fine, but my dad has always been SUPER pragmatic about life and death, so that's expected.

I hope the scheduling happens soon for both surgeries. It sounds like all of you could use that break.

My partner's parent had heart surgery two years ago. The grab bars or arms for toilets are really helpful for on/off.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Thanks man, yeah my Occupational Therapist-by-trade wife already got him that stuff in his house for my stepmom a year or so ago so he's all good on that front.

I think the bypass surgery will trigger the Parathyroid surgery to happen as soon after as he's able to tolerate it from a triage POV, whereas up till now he's been kind of lingering in "does he need this soon or not" limbo with the doctors.

The weather this spring keeps oscillating between summer and winter. From too hot to too cold and back again. And these rapid swings make the temperatures feel more extreme. (But not extreme enough to grant us the health benefits of alternating saunas and ice plunges...)
