My Nan always talked bad about that even though she routinely did it. You would never get her to admit it though.

Grandma had her funeral today. Bummer.

I have been in full blown out of control eating mode since Christmas. I have put on 75 pounds in that time which doesn’t look like a real number. Back down I go.

Spent the evening in the pediatric accident and emergency department. Seven year old with a football injury. Pretty sure it's the first of many. I was also pretty sure the swollen ankle and dramatic limp and needing to be carried everywhere were just a bad sprain. But you start doubting yourself and second guessing. And then you think well it's better to be safe than sorry. Four hours sitting waiting to see a doctor and then you think maybe it's better to be sorry in the comfort of your own home.

Anyway. X-ray confirmed it's only a bad sprain and the doctor says "So I think you can probably stand up on it". And like feckin Lazarus rising - up he gets after saying for hours he can't possibly stand up.

Kids! You can never tell if you are giving too much sympathy or not enough. And he has to stay off school tomorrow to keep it elevated. He had two days off last week with a vomiting bug.

This is the bit where I should say that the important thing is that he is ok...

I just objected to Meta using generative AI on my Facebook account. It was accepted. Messing with my groove that I had to object at all and it was a faff. And that it will make not a blind bit of difference. AI messes with my groove immensely. I can see the potential for good. But come on - we all know where this is heading.

My industry is heavily involved in AI and I've been to a few conferences lately with people spouting off about how it's going to be great (but yes we have to control it properly). It strikes me the people spouting off are all going to make money and/or careers off this stuff. My job isn't at risk from AI in the short to medium term but my job will definitely change. Long term you won't need as many me's to get the job done.

Have been operating in too many pharmaceutical and AI circles lately. Feels like I'm hovering around the axis of evil! Really interesting to see people justify their jobs as saving humanity. And from an angle they are correct - they seem like nice people, working hard on innovative products that can do a lot of good. But they neglect to mention the "and making a bucket load of money for my employer while I am at it". As a Regulator I'm also making a career out of what they create but I feel I can spin my placement on the right side of history with fewer mental leaps. Feel tainted though.

A big part of me wants to just go and live in a tree somewhere. Tree houses have bills too though I suppose.

I'm optimistic that in the long run AI will make it so that no one makes any money. Well, one way or another....

For the new generation I guess it will have to be condensed into whatever takes over short-form video after the TikTok ban goes into effect (since ByteDance appears genuinely determined not to sell). Or maybe the AR/VR TikTok equivalent. There have been iirc some promising studies on the potential of VR/AR for more effective propaganda. But let's make it pro-future propaganda, eh?

I hate ok thx, Ok or any of the variations there off as tetxreplies. To me they seem dismissive, disinterested or rude. A lot of Americans seem to use it all the time and they dont seem to mean it in that way or do they?
