'Arguments have long been a leading cause of shootings in Philadelphia, according to police. Last year, they were the motive in nearly a third of the city’s homicides. With more and more residents armed[...]'

'while arguments in the past were hashed out in person and stayed within one neighborhood, slights posted on social media and rapped in songs are permanent, public challenges for all to see.'

'a man Fortune and his friends did not know — stormed over, yelling that two of their sons said something mean to a young girl in his family. Fortune’s friend and the man argued, but eventually, the man retreated back across the street.

A few minutes later, Fortune walked over to diffuse the tension and explain there was a misunderstanding[...] But before he could speak, the man pulled out a handgun and shot at him.

Fortune ran away down the block, but the man chased him, and fired [...] Fortune’s young son watched in terror as his father was being hunted.'

'hour after hour, Philadelphians are being shot at a pace unprecedented in city history.'

The cruel normal of Philadelphia’s gun violence, and the daily trauma residents must endure

Overheard two people on the subway platform shouting death threats at each other because one of them overheard the other say something they didn't like about Tupac....

Same subway platform, different day... guy on his cellphone: 'you wouldn't survive out here'.

Work is really pressing me into the ground. If you play(ed) SFIII 3rd Strike it's like Makoto's throw where she punches the opponents in the nuts.

So much shit to clean up, constantly. Files transferred to me from people who've left where it's just endless fires. I feel like Rhulad right now.

This is the most insane and unexected reference to a Street Fighter game ever...and what's more, I understood it completely! LOL

Oh wow, I hope you can get out from under that soon. I'm sorry. I've been there and experienced that grinding misery.

Excellent. One person getting it is all I need for it to be a success. I have had Team Spooky After Hours / NYC Furby stuff in the background lately and that throw seems to happen a LOT.

Amph - thanks - I doubt there's much to be done except to get it done. But it's extremely disheartening; everything that's left is incredibly complicated (5+ medical reports, pain specialists involved, stayed for limitation etc) but because there's not as much in terms of caseload compared to when we ran the 'easy stuff', we're expected to just kind of cope with the dwindling staff we have.

Yeah we're staying. Have never seen the point in running, in fact I've seen it backfire on people who have. Looks like we're going to get it right in the face, almost exactly like Charlie in August '04. My house was less than a year old then and we suffered no damage. My roof is a lot older now.

Vultures are the scum fucks that come in with their dicks hard at the prospect of raking in the $.

Yeah we will cut up and move your trees for $20K. That was said to me by a scoper back in 2005 after Rita less than one hour after I made it back home. Just one example of the many kinds of crews that will be already on their way from across the nation and Canada and you will get 20 or so day of various kinds of crews hounding you when your outside. It gets tense when your blood is already surging.

Also I’m not surprised that this is deemed a top end cat 4. This is the 3rd time I’m seeing it in 2 yrs. Someone is making $ to keep these things from being labeled cat 5 to keep people from not having to pay their deductible. No way Laura, Ida and this isn’t Cat 5. We had wind gauges breaking all over the area in 170-190mph wind far inland. Cat 4 my ass.

Do any of you guys have those trampoline, bouncy floor centers in your area? The one nearest me has closed (I guess it has been closed for awhile, I only recently noticed). Are they closing in your area? Is that a result of the pandemic and kids having a tendency to snot and cough on each other, so they couldn't survive the shutdowns? It's a shame because the one near me used to have overflowing car parks (we call them parking lots here in 'murica) out into the adjacent street. It really used to be cooking with business on the weekends.

Now it seems pickleball is all the rage. I remember playing it during the racket sports section in one of my Phys Ed. classes in high school. It's a lot of fun. Easy entry for the inexperienced too, unlike tennis.

Update on this: Called it!

So after the trampoline business shutdown, every time I passed by the building (last half year I'd say), there was always construction work being done. Well, was swinging by there during lunchtime and sign announcing the new business - Pickleball!

Pickleball, it's sweeping the nation!

Kicking myself. I should have jumped in early and looked for opportunities (Dick's Sporting Goods possibly?), bullishness on sport injury over the counter cures? (them knees and hips of the senior demo gonna sound like stepping on a sheet of bubble wrap every morning for avid participants).

Now, I wonder what will replace the Axe throwing rec activity that seemed to set up shops around a decade ago. I think that activity may be approaching it's end.

Called it! (redux)

LeBron James is a pickleball fan. And now he's buying a team

Do you guys thing "Dick's" sporting goods is a weird name for large sporting goods retail chain?

- "We're heading over to the D, gonna pick up some balls for my pickle game."

PF I very much hope y’all came out ok on this one. Hope you have enough help with the clean up if not. I was really struck hearing Cantore and crew more or less kicking themselves on how difficult this one proved to track going way further south then Tampa. I’ve never heard anything like that from them. You can tell it was weighing on them and now reports are they may have a substantial lose of life. Fuck I hope that proves untrue.

The old / subcontracting employer put something about financial wellbeing on their website today.

And I'm looking at the key things listed and it constantly boils down to 'just pay us properly'. Don't give us discounted travel, or discounts at supermarkets, or bourgie chocolatiers, or salary sacrifice schemes - just fucking pay us properly!

A few days ago I bought a ticket for an apparently almost sold out popular outdoor nightclub event that seemed close enough to my interests to be better than the other (limited) outdoor options---'Emo night'... for which I was subjecting myself to the DJ's emo dance playlist on endless loop to study up for it (it's common for people to sing along while dancing, and people generally love it when I sing)---even though I find most of them cloying and a bit insipid even on a first playthrough (still, sort of adjacent to poetry or music I actually like... or at least to sadness, maybe?). Was going to let myself have up to two drinks outside, not wearing my mask when reasonably far away from the crowd, and masking if I ended up in the midst of a densely packed crowd dancing and singing loudly....

But the outer edges of Ian, now forecast to be arriving earlier than previously expected, are most likely going to blast the ship's deck with rain and wind. There is a covered area, but everyone will be huddled together there in a great mass of maskless flesh, and the wind will probably be blowing the rain in... on top of that, the bug bite on my foot still hasn't completely healed (I scratched it open in the night and it apparently got infected, though I've since been treating it with 20 minutes of red light therapy every morning followed by antibiotic ointment + bandage).

And the rain and wind will be even worse tomorrow morning---so if I do get laid I'll probably have to try to wrangle an Uber (I really don't want to bring anyone back to my apartment in its present state, it's a mess that will take me a while to make presentable) in the middle of a tropical storm. And while the risk of getting covid (or monkey pox) from maskless sex with one random girl seems relatively low... I'd still rather not risk it.

Do have a ticket for an indoor fetish party / fashion show tomorrow night, where I might actually have a decent chance of finding people willing to let me keep my mask on during sex. May want me to spank them, tie them up, etc. (or vice versa) which I don't mind much though it's not really my thing---I'm a little concerned my scars might give them the wrong idea. (I used to get pleasure from being ripped open but it's not something I want to do anymore---certainly not while covid and monkeypox pandemics are ongoing.) Not sure whether my foot might heal fully by tomorrow if I rest tonight---probably not for a few more days. Or I could just watch, and let them gawk at me. Hoping they do the ID check outside though, or at least that they don't demand I take my mask off inside when showing my ID....

Don't even really feel like getting laid tonight, but WTF have I been maintaining my six-pack for.... Obviously I should go on something like Tinder and look for someone willing to let me wear a P100 mask during sex (and show me they've gotten the bivalent BA.5 booster, etc.). But a lot of people won't be into that; and a majority of girls on Tinder are not just looking for sex, which is what many of them apparently assume a shirtless (or in this case semi-shirtless, six-pack) displaying photo signifies... none of which would be a problem except for the way the algorithms are set up: by being open about what I'm looking for and displaying my six-pack I'll probably get more negative swipes than I otherwise would, and as a consequence Tinder will display my photos to fewer potential matches, and that penalty will probably carry over to after the pandemic, when I'll no longer want to insist on wearing a mask.

If it's any consolation, there's not going to be an "after" the pandemic.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
