Laura just tested positive for covid. Waiting for the result of my test too, but I suspect there's little hope of it being anything else for me.

Boo! Hope it's mild for you and you both kick it (if you get it) quickly.

I echo this. In my experience it is unpleasant but keep your liquids up, rest lots and you'll pull through but here's hoping either a) negative or b ) not too severe.

My apartment complex announced they're going to be entering some apartments for fire alarm inspections over three days next week, and all apartments to see what furniture of theirs is in each apartment. Their records should already show that I don't have any of their goddamn furniture, but if the email is to be believed that won't stop them. (No mention of whether they've found someone who already recovered from omicron to do the inspections.)

Guess I'll just have to get my P100 mask and goggles ready, and be prepared to spend over three hours outside in the cold....

Though the all the times they were supposedly going to do inspections around the previous heights of the pandemic (not counting the brief pre-delta lull---and in that case the inspector wasn't from my apartment complex, but from the city government) they didn't bother.

Should not have come to work today....it's the snowpocalypse, and I had to wade through almost hip deep snow from the train station to my office....and no one is fucking here...so yeah, should have just called in.

Sigh.

EDIT: And they just called it and are closing the plant today...so yeah I spent the last 2 hours getting here and now I need to turn around and head home another 2 hours...

Double sigh

I hope you have Audiobooks in your car or a real book for your commute!

Also, isn't 2 hours slogging through snow just a normal day for Canadians?

I thought they called that "summer" in Canada, eh?

Back to work in a couple of days once my 7 day isolation period ends. That month of holidays went way too quickly.
And the next 11 months are going to totally suck. :p

I did thankfully have my book.

Funnily enough this is the worst snowstorm I’ve seen in my province since I was a kid.

They closed the major highways in and out of Toronto for being too dangerous…they have not done that in my memory,

I can handle big snowstorms…this was nightmarish.

Generally work.

Our entire department got sold to another company back in October / November odd. And we're presently running down caseloads of existing work before we are fully integrated across to the new company.

As you'd expect, a lot of people didn't come with. So we went from a department of maybe thirty people in total to a department of around thirteen or fourteen. The other team has it a lot worse than we do, but the amount of work this brings to the desk is pretty overwhelming, and it doesn't help that there are members within the team who simply don't pull weight at all. Spent fully a third of my day cleaning up their shit yesterday and still have fires to fight today, and that's without getting to my own caseload. We were also told we'd get help from outside to deal with the (acknowledged) huge per person work increase but nothing has materialised.

Rohan hasn't answered.

That's in terms of certain co-workers being gash, not in terms of management not giving us the right staff levels.

Dropped off the cheques for my monthly condo fees a few days before the New Year.

It's January 21St, and I have not been charged yet.

I emailed the super several times, no response. Left a VM with the property manager same thing.

Wtf, why do those people not want to take my money,

Louie Anderson has died. If you guys haven't seen the show Baskets, seek it out. His performance in the role as Mrs. Baskets is sublime.

Meatloaf as well.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

My mental health is in a nosedive today. Everything is still closed due to COVID, it’s -20 with the wind chill so even doing something outside bundled up is a task, the kids are struggling to be entertained indoors, I have some winter allergies acting up, and we are still struggling with the prospect of home purchase withmarket so unbelievably out of everyone’s reach.

I can empathize with you on all that. I'm sorry.

Want a fun game to play with kids? Have them separately come up with Top 5 lists of things - sandwiches, animals, colors etc and then give mini show and tells about them.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.
