Crashed my car on Monday Nov 2nd. My fault - just a seconds' daydreaming and a surprise complete stop from the car in front of me. Sigh. Her car has a few scratches but mine ended up being written off as it's so old and would cost heaps to repair. So long old girl.
Funny thing is I'm sadder to lose the car than a lot of the women I've slept with. Weird huh?
So I'm renting a Toyota Corolla Ascent for about $550 per week (ouch!) and have had bugger all time to go car shopping as I've been doing massive overtime at work due to the horribly fucked up results of our unit stocktake. Years worth of terrible paperwork, procedures etc - leading to 2 weeks of tracking shit down.
So I probably have to keep renting for maybe another week or so. That will be 3 weeks ...
I am going to try and get a fair bit of time off this week as I have missed the last 2 weekends. Fingers crossed I can get a semi decent car. Thinking a late model Mitsubishi Lancer as Nissan don't make the Pulsar any more and the Tiida is ghey.
And last Friday I did a 15km pack march, carrying 30kg of kit plus rifle. OK, so the former grunts on here won't think that's much but may I remind you I'm a storeman? Who hasn't done PT for weeks because of this stupid stocktake. And I haven't pack marched since basic - which finished in Jan '08.
In sum, I was unfit, unconditioned (apparently you need 6 weeks buildup supervised by a Physical Training Instructor, including progressively longer prep marches with heavier kit), had to borrow a mates' (badly packed, ill-fitting) kit, not a grunt, tired, stressed, sleeping and eating badly from all the overtime ...
And I still passed. I fucking kicked arse. I was absolutely destroyed at the end of it, but I passed and guess what? Almost a dozen grunts from my company - who do this shit for a living - DIDN'T. And not because they were sick or broken, they were fine at the start, they just fell out along the way or fell behind and couldn't finish within the time limit.
In a side note, it turns out that my Corps only has to ATTEMPT these marches and we get a tick in the box. I could have fallen out after 2 steps and still passed. Nice to find that out after the fact. Oh well.
But I am still amazingly sore. Should see some of my blisters - they developed and popped during the march and when I took my socks off later I had to throw them out because of the blood. A somewhat Pyrrhic victory.
