standard holidays are like 4/5 weeks paid vacation? (I think, I've been self employed for years)

sigh, it's a little different in North America. In Canada it's minimum 2 weeks paid vacation plus statutory holidays. Depends on the profession as well and the company, some give more.
I think my mom get's 4 or 5 weeks vacation but she's been at the same job for over 20 years and is almost 60 years old.

I also get 5 whole sick days which I used in February when I had the flu and have been trying not to get sick ever since...

Yeah, y'all need to get that shit sorted.
It's 4 weeks minimum for a permanent employee in Australia/NZ as well, plus public holidays (or time in lieu or overtime pay) and its I think 6 sick days per year as well (minimum, not that I've ever used them).

Not only is it good for employees, it helps productivity and staff retention, so businesses should be all over that.

Yeah oh for sure studies have shown all that, but I still doubt it'll happen anytime soon. Business owners won't want to give up that time they could be getting work done and making money, even if it's not true. It's sad but that's the way it is here.

Yup, no party here's gonna make such sweeping changes to the ESA here. Libs had an opportunity, but they decided to focus on min wage instead (and it didn't help them to stay in power either) .

I was fortunate enough to get a 3rd week of vacation as soon as I got my license (due to perceived "additional stress" of my new position) but that's exception rather than the rule- and beyond the bare minimum, employers have a ton of discretion on this stuff.

Excuse my French, but fucking hell, can this weather please go die in a corner? It's 24°C in October. Since I also still have breathing issues from my train adventure earlier this week, gym has turned into a disaster today. I mean, an arm & shoulder day is also okay, but no squats for me today... :)

Jeez Puckeroo, I'd LOVE to have 24 degrees in October. It's already in the thirties and 80+% humidity ... :p

Although we had 30mm rain and a nice breeze last night which made things much more pleasant. Temporarily though, unfortunately.

I am so not looking forward to summer. Going to be even worse than last year apparently. Working in an office without aircon really sucks. Add that to the PT in body armour, blerg. Stupid workplace. :)

We've just had our stupidly hot summer for this year, though. I was looking forward to some more bearable weather. A week without headaches would be wonderful. Wish it would at least rain here.

Though I totally get what you mean. I am already dreaming of relocating to Siberia, and Europe is bearable compared to Australia.

Can we swap your 24 degrees for the 8 (feels like 5) we got?

The disgusting stinky, sticky weather has started. So uncomfortable at work. Had to put the aircon on at home.

Interestingly, the three words I always associated with you are disgusting, stinky & sticky...

My head coach from college passed away this morning. Knew it was coming, but it still sucks.

I just caught this post. Sorry this happened, and glad this that he's okay now. Phew, I can't imagine going through that. Would scare the crap out of me.

Omg I hurt so bad... I can't sit down and yet I can't stand up, just want my Ambien to carry me off to sleep and put this horrible day behind me. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I was supposed to do something with my life. I quite clearly remember that.

Ugh please don't let me have passed this shit onto my kids.

Glad to hear your kid is ok BK..
You of course, have my deep sympathies. Its really horrible that nothing can be done about your pain.

I get to have surgery on Wednesday, my birthday to get pins put into one of my fingers. Yay.

Well at least now you get to tell your mum that you met a nice surgeon who gave you some expensive metal for your finger.

Having had a similar experience a few years back, I recommend you don't let them take it out until more than 3 or so weeks. They took mine out 2.5 weeks after insertion and the finger healed at a slight angle. Good thing I never learned piano, because now I never will. :p

Are they putting you under a general anaesthetic?

I shouldn't think they will.
Doctors here are reluctant to use general unless necessary. The time I had my finger chopped off they did it all with local

Yes, but admittedly that was just after you watched Jared Leto in "The Outsider".
