1 day left until vacation. Which is good, but the packing, running a million errands, and my mom's insistence that she doesn't want to come back to a messy house, so we need to CLEAN (yes, all caps) is all kinds of annoying.

Don't get me wrong, love my boys, but the eldest sometimes talks too fucking much. Keep feeling like Karsa...

That he is! Smart like nom too. Just "too many words."

Now waiting for the ex to come home so I can drop off the boys. I really hate that I am always waiting on this godawful woman.

Back from my weekend trip. Unfortunately it turned out to be one of those weekends you need a weekend to recover from. Everything hurts

Just been to do the food shop for the first time without my boy. He started school last week and we were so busy helping to get him settled that it didn't hit me until today.

So no little ones in the trolley, no snacks to keep him going, drinks or toilet stops; no bribery to get him in the car or out of it.. the list is endless. I've been constantly wishing for a bit of peace and time - but today I'm feeling horribly bereft.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Traveller, I know that feeling.

My son started school 3 weeks ago and the freedom is lovely but extremely lonely too.

I'm lucky that I'm at work all day to keep my mind off it, but I know that m y wife is struggling a little (house move is helping keep her occupied at the moment).

It gets easier, or so I'm told.

What is it with some places and customer service? Just wanted a coffee from Dazbog, had a gift card which left me with 59 cents to pay, and then tried to hand over a credit card to be told they would only do that for 1 dollar or more! I ask so what do you want me to do? Do you have something for 50 cents? The lowest priced item is a cookie for 1.50. They suggested I add the remainder to a gift card (to have this happen again?! No thanks) at which point I ask for the manager.

The manager looks hassled as I explain to her the conundrum and just had the cashier void the difference. As I add sugar and cream I can hear the cashier ask if the difference should come out of the tip jar.

GH, that makes total sense. Place sthat offer credit card payment have to pay for every transaction - it's free for you, but not for them. There comes a point where they're approaching paying more for the transaction than you pay for whatever, so there's no point in accepting that. Over here, many places don't take credit cards on payments below €5 or even €10. It's not about customer service, it's about actually earning something.

Now, I came here to complain about the weather. It's September, it shouldn't be 30°C. It just shouldn't.

^^This. I learned this when I worked in the service industry. It actually would have cost them money for you to transact under a dollar on a credit card. It's not like with cash or debit where they don't have to pay fore the service, credit card companies operate differently.

Also, to answer the worker's question about whether it comes out of their tips, the answer of course is Yes. Always Yes. There's no way the company is going to lose 59 cents when it can pass that loss down to the workers.

Except, that's bullshit.

It costs them? That's an *expense*. They pay for it out of their profits they make on ALL sales. Bump prices on all products by 1c and their cost per month is covered.

I can understand in smaller businesses where sales volume is an issue, but in most cases it's simply penny-pinching or poor management that causes the kind of rubbish GH is talking about.

Again, merchant facilities are a cost of business.

People not keeping their noses out of my breakup.

Whilst the flat purchase goes through, ex and I still live together. Since there was no real wrongdoing that caused the breakup and we're both adults, we're still friendly with each other and I'm assured we're comfortable to be around in a group as well. We basically exist like flatmates. Whilst we'll both breathe a little easier when I can move out and we can be separate, it's nowhere near as irksome as it could have been given the situation.

Until friends start throwing their two penneth in. I've got one friend who basically throws a fit every time we're together and talk to one another. They threw a spectacular one because when they were all out together and I was away for the weekend we were messaging (because he'd tried to pick a parcel up for me and it had been sent out again for redelivery, so he was letting me know and asking if Dad and I were enjoying the Bosworth event) - and in their words "You need to stop talking, he was smiling and laughing reading your messages. It's weird, you need to move out right now"

Heaven forbid the man should have a sense of humour, and see fit to engage it.

Given we were all away as a bunch of friends to see Kynren this weekend, and when we went out to Hartlepool headland we were pushing each other (and everyone else) into the sea, I'm waiting for the inevitable earful about the fact we dare have fun together.

I'm sorry there isn't enough drama for you.... I just don't see that it effects anyone else or is anyone else's business.

Now this is maturity. I don't know what Kynren is but it sounds like fun :killingme:

I'm on my phone so can't link - but its an outdoor night show "An epic tale of England" - 2000 years of history in 90 minutes. Made even more awesome by the fact it was all performed by volunteers and no professional performers :-)

Oh wow that sounds grand. I wonder if they will release a DVD later like bands do after tours.
