He can only hear the first 10% of any given conversation. It is most inconvenient.
Might explain my asshole behavior sometimes.

Hey amph, I hope you don't mind me asking this, but just what does it mean to have 90% hearing loss, like in terms of what the percentage represents? Is it 90% of the frequencies on the spectrum of sound that ears normally pick up? Or a matter of volumes that register? Clarity? Or is the percentage thing kind of representative/amalgam of all of that?
Means that sounds need to be "lawnmower noises" loud for me to hear them without technology. A person bellowing in my ear would be equivalent to that as well.
I hear lower frequencies slightly better, which means that the hearing aids amplify high pitched noises more (and they bother me more than the average person when too loud) and put less oomph in the lower frequency volumes. The devices get me to about 90% of what a normal person can hear, with the caveat of it being filtered through software and electronic devices, so I'm hearing a slightly different sound than most people are.
I also assiduously avoid being rained on or splashed in the head region, in order to protect the devices. The coping mechanisms and workarounds are essentially automatic now for me, but I am always going to mis-hear things and not hear other things.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.
