Yep. Keep constantly busy. Find a project you'd enjoy and attack it. Something with manual labor is even better so you'll be exhausted at bedtime.

The gym/exercise in general is always a good one to throw yourself into. It has numerous benefits in that exercise shuts down your brain from complex thoughts and forces you to lift things, which in turn exhausts you so you sleep better. While not relevant now it will also make you feel better/more confident and look better to the opposite sex which will help you move forward when your ready to. Also, again this is subjective, if you work in a shit dead end job making no progress the gym gives you a sense of progress and accomplishment outside of your professional atmosphere.

As the others said, keep busy. Do stuff. Go full nerd maybe. Go deep into some games or movies, read books, whatever you like.

As for too soon, nothing arbitrary. Just try and make it late enough so that the next girl isn't just a replacement for your ex wife, because she'll pay the price for your haste. When you stop drawing parallels between a new girl you like and the ex wife, that'd be a good signal you're getting better.

Dolmen+, from my own very recent and personal experience, I've found the most rewarding way to turn things around both mentally and emotionally is to focus on self improvement. Commit yourself to perfecting yourself physically, or learning a language, accomplishing long set goals. Anything that makes you happy. At the end of the day, if you're happy with the direction in which your life is going, you're the real winner.

I am thinking of taking art school in Europe. Always wanted to do it but never could risk leaving the steady career path which we both depended on. She was the only woman I'd experienced a real relationship with so I guess I need to get out there at some point and just hook up. I generally play it straight, never really got to enjoy the fun stuff.

I have to say my dad sat me down and really talked me through the problems.

I just need to try do my art the way I always wanted to and try get overseas, reconnecting with family.

I reported the horses tethered opposite the local university to the RSPCA this morning, and felt like I'd done the right thing and that it would be worthwhile for the animals benefit.

Got home only to have the other half tell me that same bunch of horses has been there in the same varying sorry states since he started at university there (some eight years ago) and that the RSPCA have been informed countless times. They belong to a travelling community who have a camp nearby and the officers are too scared of being branded prejudiced or whatever else to go through with removing the animals.

They're malnourished, their hooves are overgrown leading to them standing in a very splayed fashion and their coats look terrible. They also have no company and no shelter from all weathers as they are left tethered there in the open day and night.

One day I hope to go to bed and wake up with the world making some sort of sense again

(Apologies, that turned into a longer rant than intended!)

And sorry to hear that Dolmen - try to keep busy, see friends and keep your mind occupied! Not fool proof but it might help a little.

Do this! I want to say something else as well, and a lot of people are telling you to keep yourself occupied and maybe ignore the problem by said preoccupation, and I would highly recommend against it. It's going to resurface, and it's worth your consideration. Just don't let that shit get you down. Like I said, and others have said - self improvement. Do you, live life, do the things you wanted to do that you never could. I wouldn't even say getting out there and hooking up is an answer, but if that's what you wanna do, then by all means do it. I've just found that productivity and focus really help sort your feelings and thoughts out without actually really sitting down and immersing yourself in those thoughts. Which helped avoid a lot of depression for me I reckon.

Be happy man, it's not the end of the world.

Currently messing with my groove is the fact that I work with people who are so inexperienced that they cannot even understand how inexperienced they are! They are hostile to everything more experienced colleagues put in front of them to try to make their working life and the business better. They are idiots and the CEO is probably the frickin worst of the lot. I'm currently in a position in my home life that means changing jobs isn't feasible so I'm stuck here with the inmates running the asylum. I am learning the important life skill of just going through the motions and accepting the pay cheque at the end of the month.

It's hellishly annoying that on another playthrough of Mass Effect 3, even though I have like full Paragon reputation bar at the end, the last persuasion option at the end is greyed out. What. The. Fuck.

Also, the ending sequence is so badly written... gods. Might be that special DLC made it even worse
