I probably have it too...I woke up feeling OK but when I start walking around I feel faint. And I have a fever and chills.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

I'm sure you have it AIJ :killingme: - Victoria now has the greatest concentration of swine flu per capita in the world apparently. Something like 90% of all Australian swine flu cases are in Victoria. I'm almost scared to go home ;)

I'm feeling a bit better, thankfully. :veryangry: How long do you think it'll be before people start saying God is punishing Victorians? Can't be long now...

I'm annoyed because I'm not sick enough to stay home anymore... ;)

I think I may have Swine Flu ;)

Like, really? If so, BURN HIM!!

There's a decent chance of it, yeah. The day I get an email saying someone else in the college has been found to have swine flu, I develop a bad cough, a runny nose and a fever, with the occasional sneeze thrown in. Could be a coincidence I guess...but I'm dubious.

Get thee on the phone to thine GP!

I have bad hayfever at the moment. I don't like taking anti-histamine for a long period as I feel if I admit to one allergy, they will all get me. I am not weak! However, every time I sneeze I feel like people are judging me and think I am one of the infected.

Loogies are messing with my groove. I have had to work on them in the lab before, but I usually just add a load of strong alkaline liquid to the whole pot (whilst holding it at arms length and barely looking) and once it has dissolved, it isn't quite so retch inducing.

Tomorrow, I have to get pots of loogies and then physically seperate the chunks before adding the chemicals. Now, dear reader, take a couple of moments to consider what splitting loogie chunks could actually entail. I have been chatting to various science and doctory people today about how best to do it and every single person has ended up retching!! I think tomorrow I might be a little bit sick in my mouth, at best.

Sounds... Lovely.

Remind me not to bring that up in conversation with you... Ever.

And to think I have issues with my job...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Reminds me of streaking the fecal and sputum plates when i work in the lab. Not so much fun, especially when some new nurse would bring a sample, in a jar... a FULL jar. Thank god i left :p

Been waiting a couple of weeks to hear absolute final confirmation about my job. Filled out all the required forms, medical stuff and the like. They said they were very happy with all that, just waiting for the receipt of 2 positive references from my referees and I could start. The first one was returned to them within days. Then there's the snag.

The second reference was insisted upon being previous employer. The manager at my last job left about a week before I did. Then all the rest of the staff did after I left. It's not a well-run place, so none of the present people have any idea who I was or could provide a reference, so I gave them the new contact details of the ex-manager, who I figured would be able to provide them with the information required. As he was at a completely new place - so new e-mail address and phone number as both were work based, apparently - he has proved very difficult to get hold of.

Anyway, a week passed. He said he still hadnt heard anything. They swore they sent it - recorded delivery. So I gave an e-mail address. They e-mailed him the forms. He says he still has got nothing. Work is getting abit impatient, as it's been some time now and it must look to them like I have a non-existent or fictional referee.

Basically, I dont know what to do. I am still absolutely battered from last night. Had 4 hours sleep after a pub crawl before I was awoken by a phone call to convey said news, so I dont feel very well - certainly not in the state to be able to try and fix all this. But it sort of has to be done today. What do I do? If post isnt working and e-mail isn't working, I'm not sure how I can ensure he receives/does something about the forms. And if I doesn't, I might lose the job. Sigh. Why is nothing ever easy?

I also ran into the tutor who marked the dissertation I'm worries about in a pub last night. He didn't seem too optimistic for me about that, so there's another kick in the teeth right there.

Sputum samples split = 2
Number of retches = 7 (approximately)
Number of vomits = 1

It's the stringy aspect that is causing the most trouble.

Two more samples left to go once they are hacked up. Pot volume depends on how much they can do. Sweet jesus, I didn't spend 8years at university for this!

Toby - fight your corner! Apologise to the new job for the confusion at the old job and ask them if they have any idea how to get around it. It is what HR people are hired for, after all! Also, are there HR people at the old job to hassle about it?

That's the thing, he was my manager at the old place, and there were 5 of us there. He left, one of the others took over then had a mental breakdown, I left to go back to uni, and the other 2 guys quit shortly after. Bearing in mind the fact no-one there now would have the faintest idea who I am and so be unable to provide the character/personal reference bit required, or probably even find the paperwork relevant to when I was there - it was very much a "you wanna work Saturday? Turn up around 10ish, work through til 8" sort of system, so not much official went down, you just put the hours you did on the paysheet, manager signed, and that was it, you got the money - so I gave them the contact details of my old manager.

They sent him the stuff in the post. He never got it. A week passed. They said "we're still waiting." I apologised and said there must have been a problem with the mail system or I copied the address down wrong or something.

So I got his e-mail address. They sent the stuff. He never got it. I put it down to maybe a filter on his work's e-mail being responsible. So now I've given them his mobile number.

Now, they're starting to get annoyed - he might be made up for all they know (though why I'd make up 3 months work in a leisure centre, I dont know) - and also, they referee is starting to get annoyed, because I've had to keep contacting him to get things extra contact details, and to check up whether he got this batch of stuff or has heard from them or not. Accordingly, he'll likely give me a shit reference now - I would, if I were him. I'm just nervous because a similar job went up recently where a woman I know went for a very similar job, got it, references went through, they were fine, then they withdrew the job offer because of the current economic climate - after all the process, they decided they couldnt afford it after all. So I dont want it to drag out or get them pissed off just in case.

UPDATE: I've just got an e-mail from HR saying my references are fine and a start date is being worked out. Considering I spoke to me referee a couple of hours ago and he'd received nothing, I have no idea how suddenly they have it. Maybe they rang him and that was all they were bothered about? Or they just thought "sod it, we'll just skip it." Either way, PHEW.:p

TT references these days are pretty bland(fear of litigation) so your new employers prob decided that, after all the fucking about from Ref2, you were a hero to work there at all.
Good Luck in the job and when is your first payday so we can send begging letters?

I still have my stupid cough...and coupled with a thunderous crunch with a teammate's back at training, makes for a very sore upper chest.

I'm waiting for it to burst open, liek Alien.
