Same thing happened to me in QLD, it's ridiculous.

My wallet is positively screaming at the gutting it's receiving, as it's turned out to be a very expensive weekend. Best friend and gf's 21sts and now Mother's Day. Ouchies.

Population clock shows Japan faces extinction in 1000 years
May 13, 2012 - 1:48PM
Japanese researchers have unveiled a population clock that shows the nation's people could theoretically become extinct in 1000 years because of declining birth rates.

Academics in the northern city of Sendai said that Japan's population of children aged up to 14, which now stands at 16.6 million, is shrinking at the rate of one every 100 seconds.

Their extrapolations pointed to a Japan with no children left within a millennium.

Advertisement: Story continues below
"If the rate of decline continues, we will be able to celebrate the Children's Day public holiday on May 5, 3011 as there will be one child," said Hiroshi Yoshida, an economics professor at Tohoku University.

"But 100 seconds later there will be no children left," he said. "The overall trend is towards extinction, which started in 1975 when Japan's fertility rate fell below two."

What a pointless extrapolation. They're assuming a stable societal state for more than a THOUSAND YEARS!??! Not only is a declining population currently a good thing - the world is overpopulated, imo - it is unlikely to be constant for more than a century, if that, unless it is literally a fertility thing (having not hit the read more, I can't say), and even then it is unlikely to go on for an extended period of time. Mind you, Japan is ridiculously homogeneous, so I could buy it if they stayed that way in the next couple of centuries and it was indeed a genetics-sourced reduction in fertility. The simple solution is then clear, though - become more ethnically diverse, thus enabling reproduction to resume at above a 1:1 rate.

Still, this is about as meaningless as someone trying to predict the sate of the economy in 1000 years, or the advancement of computer technology. It's simply too far out to allow for any variables whatsoever and thus becomes a waste of everyone's time. Could be a fun piece of trivia, however...

I am forced to do the occasional check of my Sky Sports app on my phone on the last day of the PL season because I'm at work... Not that I mind based on my last check if the results stay the same... But a beer in the pub with the game on would be welcome! :-D

My decision to expand upon a piece of creative writing and shape it into a story. A simple piece has tailored into mayhem. And today I had the most ludicrously ambitious decision and it scared the shit out of me.

Really doubting I can do this. But I might as well give it a go right?

Work purchased me a copy of Adobe CS 6 (just released) which I am downloading off the Adobe Site (giving me a 4 hour download window....Great)...

My experiences in the past with Freshly released Adobe products is that they are always buggy...but there are customers being bitchy about us not having it (since they were stupid enough to download it the day it was released) so we have to get it.

I foresee headaches.

OK, listen up cos this is an all time groove messer.

Tonight, I have to watch Twilight Breaking Dawn Pt 1...  Allow me to provide some context. I may have mentioned before that my wife and I made a deal whereby she would come to a metal gig with me & I would watch all the Twilight films with her... She dutifully came to a gig, and I have so far watched the first 3. You may even remember that I did my bit to allay the soul crushing idiocy coming my way by standing up and whipping my top off at the same time poncy werewolf boy did it. It has since ruined a couple of peoples experience of said poncy werewolf boy, and I consider that a win...

But the time has now come that I have to watch the next one and I am a man of my word... Think well of me my friends, for I may never be the same again... In lieu of flowers, please send sympathy rep to "Please for the love of everything holy, stop pretending Twilight is respectable" (Tiste Simeon memorial rep fund) Charity #092133982357
