They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Am attempting to find that wonderfully hilarious Tiste Simeon-based parody of "I'm Sexy and I Know It" on the forums but I don't remember where it is:(

So I've been going along for ages now knowing I've got a guaranteed admission into Uni, so I'd thought everything was sorted out.
I went to orientation yesterday and I was asked what courses I'm doing, and I said I was doing Creative Writing. and they looked all confused and asked me a bunch of questions that went way over my head.
So, suddenly apprehensive, I come home and try logging in to my University online account, and for the THIRD time it refuses my password. So I reset that over the phone again.
When I log in, I click on Enroll, which is what I thought I had already done to get into Uni. But apparently I have to enroll in the courses of my choosing that are involved with my degree, and I don't know what courses I can and can't choose??
I make a bit of empty progress and eventually find out that I have to enroll in classes also, by figuring out my timetable according to the courses I'm doing and whatnot. I need to choose 4 courses for the first semester, and I only know of 2 possible courses, so I looked at what classes are available for them, and they are all Full.
I thought Bachelor of Arts was the course??
I'm straight out of fucking high school, it would be nice if SOMEONE could have helped me a bit. They could have sent emails saying: congratulations, you have been accepted into University, not this is what you need to do to actually ATTEND FUCKING UNIVERSITY.
But no. I go along for months, oblivious to much shit Im in for not instinctively knowing what I'm meant to do. The times I have called them for assistance, they have been anything but helpful. I understand that they may be busy, but for fuck's sake, I am just an 18 year old, how am I supposed to figure all this out?
I'm actually going to the university tomorrow to find anyone that can possibly help me.
I've never complained about a service before, but this has been so consistently inconvenient that it almost seems as though they don't want me to come. Feedback or correspondence of any kind would have been helpful.
At this rate I am actually not in university like I thought I was. If I hadn't gotten that one comment from another student yesterday, I would have turned up monday and looked like a fool that had wandered into the school.
Me: Hey, can someone tell me where Bachelor of Arts students go?
Random person: What course are you doing?
Me: ... Bachelor of Arts
Random Person: That's a degree not a course...
Me: *confused*
Random Person: Have you enrolled in any classes?
Me: I don't know? All I know is that I'm doign a Bachelor of Arts??
Person: What are you majoring in?
Me: Creative Writing.
Person: Well maybe you are defaulted to the Academic Writing course, go to room G17.
Me: *arrives at G17*
Teacher: Who are you?
Me: (name). I'm here to commence my Bachelor of Arts degree.
Teacher: What? *checks roster* You're not on my roll.
Me: OHFORFUCKSSAKE!

Im just going to go sleep.

Don't sweat it Syl. First off, everyone who works in a university knows that undergrads generally don't have a clue the hell is going on. Worst case scenario is you go back to the uni, find whatever your equivalent of an undergraduate admissions/administration office is (campus map!), tell them you don't have a clue what you're supposed to do and get them to help. Or go online and look for "Information for new undergraduates" or look for information desks or those helpful students who volunteer to help first years find their way around.

Being the first generation of my family that went to uni, I had no clue what to do when I got there either. It will be old hat this time next year.

My groove is messed by the fact that everyone at work agrees that I have more projects than one person can possibly handle but I'm still getting shit for the fact one is going too slowly. Universal constant I know, but why does it have to be so?!?!?!

:)

I've decided to drop in tomorrow to get some assistance and find out why there has been so much complication attributed to my name.
I've calmed down since posting that before. :)

What weirds me out is that no one sat you down and explained things to you. Where do you live? In Canada I had a counselor in my last year of High school (OAC, grade 13 basically) sit me down and explain things to me. Then when I actually applied to post-secondary at Sheridan, the admissions people sat me down and explained everything to me...again...and made it pretty much foolproof to get into the right things with enough time to spare.

The fact that no one did that for you at the school you are going to attend simply baffles me. How do they expect you to just KNOW what to do?

You've got my sympathy. When you go in there, make sure they know "feedback-wise" that it's not at all cool that this stuff was not properly explained...and with the money you will be paying them, they should have damn well been helping you with that MONTHS ago. You don't have to be dickish or anything, but if it were me I'd at least tell them how disappointed I was in the admissions process.

We were supposed to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey tonight. The complications surrounding the rides killed it though.
No 2001. Damn.

Turns out it wasn't their fault at all, in fact, they were just as confused as I was.
What happened was my mother called them a number of times while I was away for two weeks and adamantly tried to get my admission to Uni cancelled.
There was a bit of confusion because she can't legally do that now that I'm 18. But nonetheless, there was a mess made from it all.
I haven't spoken to my mom about it yet. I don't even see the point really.

That is enormously effed up.

Yeah, quietly walking away when you have all your ducks in line is a great idea. It heads off all the dramatic stuff and you're free in a way that's truly nice to have.

Now don't go and screw it all up by doing awful in the Creative Writing classes. Kick butt in those. Practice, practice and practice some more.

Hang loose, SS. They can't control you for much longer.

So I phoned this acting agency and apparently they have an annual intake...in January. However, what I really require is a profile photo or headshot, as all of the auditions/jobs I'm looking at require one. Does anyone know if there are local/general places where they offer this sort of thing?
