Nope. I did what Grim and Amph suggested. I used a calorie/fitness App on my iPhone to keep track of daily calories and I told it how much I wanted to lose. It dropped me about 200 calories a day from what I had been eating and slowly I lost weight bit by bit.
It's actually quite surprising how many calories we take in on a daily basis and don't realize it. For example, I used to think nothing of polishing off a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beer...and didn't realize that adds up to more than half your daily calories right there. If you eat 4 slices of pizza that is 3/4 of your daily intake. So I think people just go over every day and don't realize it.
Simply paying attention to what I was eating, drinking lots of water, and walking at about 2.5KM/hr about 30 minutes each day (which is basically the walking to and from bus and subway on my ways to and from work), and dropping the weight was fairly painless. I never really feel like I am dieting much.
I'm looking to lose about another 5 pounds which puts me in the correct and healthy weight for my age and height, at which point I'll flip my calorie/fitness app to the current weight I am and I should be able to maintain it.
