I'm in Dublin for a child free weekend with Mrs Tiste!

Hope you had a lovely time!

I had my autism assessment yesterday. I was expecting it to be far more nerve-wracking than it turned out to be, the assessor was a really kind gentleman who was very easy to speak to. I'm officially diagnosed with a very long report to follow up, but it feels good to have the process out of the way and to not be thrown a curveball by the outcome (it's what we expected). I did speak about the differences/quirks having made me wonder if I wasn't a very nice person in the past when I was younger, and the assessors said some very kind things about that and about the need to frame it not as something "wrong" but merely a perfectly valid difference in how I experience the world and think about it. I'm very pleased I decided to go down this route.

Congrats! I'm happy there was a good moment of empathy by the assessors for you in the recursive loop about what happened long ago.

Nice is also extremely flexible as a concept - there's a bunch of unpacking to do in regards to who wants something nice, what they think is nice, and what they're actually given because these things are not always the same at any given moment.

I'm glad you have a diagnosis to work with. That's such an important step for sure. Helps to know that you are not second-guessing yourself.

Spent the day on top of a mountain. It was nice to be out after a long winter and too much office time.

Thanks all :)

Amph - the assessor went in to some similar ideas about "niceness" and polite norms as well, we had a really interesting tangent conversation about cultural differences in "polite" norms which was quite illuminating.

Just got pulled over for speeding while on vacation. The cop told me that if he wrote the ticket, I would have to come back to Ohio for court. So he took mercy and gave me a seatbelt ticket which is a non-moving violation that is $30 and won’t affect my insurance. Awesome.

Huh, looks like my old Neverwinter Nights MMORPG box materials from 1991 could go for around $500-$800, despite having been opened and used... at least if I can locate and gather together all the stuff that came in the box, depending on what condition they're in. This listing below that sold for $800 on eBay says "like new" but it's been used and the box corners look slightly worn to me:

https://www.ebay.com...ABk9SR_KgptzNZQ

This one not yet sold is in worse condition (they say "good" but it looks kindof crappy to me) and they're asking about $600 for it... but again, no takers so far:

https://www.ebay.com...8.c101506.m1851

Doubt I have many more "rare" games but I'm not sure.

Yup, that's probably why it's rare, despite being a pc game from 1991... I barely remember it. Not sure how young I was when I started. First MMORPG with gui.

https://en.wikipedia...1991_video_game)

Was thinking of just tossing all the old pc games without bothering to look them up. Then I did a quick search for whether old pc games are valuable and lo and behold right there in the list of valuable old pc games is the Neverwinter Nights I have.

And some less rare ones I've got have been going for a surprisingly large amount of money---Bart's House of Weirdness for $80:

Man, I was thinking it was a MUD text-game type thing, but a graphical component way back then ... phew.

We went to a Dungeons & Dragons Immersive event yesterday for our few days of celebratory Birthday stuff with my wife and our close knit group of friends and it was really fun! Not anything mind blowing, but great actors, and themes and puzzles...took place in Waterdeep which made me squeak excitement, and a number of other D&D diehard Easter eggs were present. You roll a dice on your way out and whatever you roll you get that % off the perch store they had set up, my sister in law rolled a Nat 20, so she gave that to me to get 20% off, so I got a swanky new D&D t-shirt.

And tomorrow (wife's actual Bday) I took the day off and at her request we are going to a day spa together. So that should be great!

D&D immersive day spa could be interesting... maybe Ravencroft / Dark Sun / Planescape themed. Though Waterdeep would be a nice pun... very immersive. As you're being dunked into the ice bath, with waterproof VR goggles on... then buffeted by winds and heat (as fire fills your goggles, diving into the dragon's maw...).

I freely admit that I would be on board for that. In fact, if the universe wants to randomly mash up daily activities with D&D I would not be upset about it. LOL

I found out yesterday I'm going to be promoted!

Manager has set a couple of criteria to work towards and we'll have regular meetings to discuss those, but she asked for next year and the powers that be have said if I meet the criteria it can be whenever at her discretion.

It's a bit of a shock - I'm very early in terms of length of time doing the job to make Senior, but our team situation is a bit unique and my attorneys fed back that I've basically functioned as second in command to manager for a long time now despite that.

Hasn't really sunk in yet but what a lovely surprise!
