Since I finally wrapped up a bunch of intense deadlines @ work, I finally had the time yest to clean up my office and bring in the old furniture my bosses donated to me from upstairs. Now I have a proper desk, a table, and my phone no longer stands propped up by a cardboard box. The place is starting to look like an office, not an oversized storage room. Soon I might actually have enough room to set up a fan, if the heat gets any worse.

We finally got the last piece of Nursery furniture with the Glider and Footrest delivered.
I love assembling things (seriously, people buy me Lego sets still at almost the age of 40 because I love buckling down to assembling stuff!) and so this is something fun to look forward to doing this weekend (after the prenatal courses we are attending of course). And I have one other item (some sort of Fisher Price rocker cradle-y thingie), and then the Nursery is completely done and ready for the baby.
We just notched into the final month and a half as the due date is mid-late August. Gotta pack our hospital bags. Exciting! I look forward to zero sleep. LOL

I'm Canadian, and I'm annoyed that when I go into the States and ask for tea I have to clarify that it should be "hot tea" as their default is apparently iced tea. The first time it happened (in Florida I think?) I asked for tea and the waitress said "Hot tea?" and I goggled at her and was like "Of course hot tea."
Like WTF?
You do realize that the rest of the country doesn't consider Florida to be civilized in any fashion what so every and in a recent reddit poll Florida barely lost to Mississippi in which state would you be fine exiting the union. Floridians are generally considered to be on par with alabamians. Just a slightly less likely hood that your mom is also your aunt.
I dunno it almost seems like Florida is the Nickleback of states... its become trendy to slam it but no one really knows why.

Try going to a civilized part of America and ask for tea. Obviously by civilized I mean a cosmopolitan city. But not Chicago. We will kill your ass dead. Some where fancy Cleveland.
Silly as the boiled leaves are, the LadyByss is a fan and she had zero problem in Chicago. Sorry, you're not as tough as you like to project. Aside from every July 4 where you shoot all the things.

I have learned this since then about Florida, indeed...but then I've been asked the "hot tea" question in Baltimore AND Boston too...what's their excuse? LOL
Baltimore... The Wire.
Boston you were obviously at an inferior establishment probably located near campus.

I had to take a tea back in Starbucks in NYC. It tasted like someone had made it with dishwater containing lemony washing up liquid. The server asked what was wrong so I said "I'm English, just give me hot water and the tea bag and I'll fix the rest myself". That's now my default in the US and I haven't had a bad cup since
This is pretty much a fallback everywhere that isn't British. Look, you can't really expect everyone else to take boiling leaves seriously. What next, potatoes? Grains? Cat poo???

Baltimore see the wire.. I wouldn't think Boston would need an answer. I mean that is where the American Revolution started by throwing tea bales into the Harbor. Your lucky they let you out of the establishment with just stares and drone surveillance.

For the record, people know exactly why Nickelback and Florida are punchlines.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I was on campus the other day and they were playing Good Charlotte and Gob. Then yesterday at a pub they were playing Treble Charger and Sum 41. So I'd guess it's 2003?

Yesterday Eddie Hall deadlifted 500kg.
It's a simple enough statement, but the sheer mindblowing incredulousness of this achievement has left me grinning like an idiot.
He beat his own previous record by 35kg....
I'm trying to find the words to describe just how ridiculous this is for people who aren't into strength sports....
youtube link
In strength sports, record increments are usually in the 1,2 occasionally drifting as high as 5-10kg levels.
a 35kg increase is INSANE.
Plus, this is a 500kg lift.
This is something that a LOT of people considered absolutely physically IMPOSSIBLE for a human being to achieve.
This is like Usain Bolt going out at his next competitive 100metre final and running it in 9 seconds flat.
not 9.4, or 9.3... 9 flat.
Words genuinely can't express how amazed i am at this.

Yeah, that was insane. He passed out and started bleeding out of his nose. Said he thought he was going to die.
The thought of lifting that much weight is unreal.

How the world turns. When my SO and I first got together, she had a bit of a self esteem problem and I had to talk her out of a funk many times. 5 years on today, I am depressed and she is the one who talks me out of it. With rock solid logic.

I liked how other people get really excited to play the new Pokémon games, but I don't move off my couch for video games - so I got Black working on my phone. Haven't played since Gold and Silver.

Black and White are really divisive among fans. Personally, I love them. A lot of people dislike that there are no repeat monsters from previous generations, and some of the monsters are uninspired - to say the least. One tip: moves are now sorted into physical or special attack on their own merit instead of all attacks of a type using either special or physical.
Uh... I like pokemons.

Still Happy over the fact that the (minuscule budget) feature film that I got to work on last summer had it's world premiere at the Galway Film Festival last weekend. It was the first time that most of us who worked on it got to see the finished product, and it turned out to be really really good. In fact, it managed to jointly win the award for Best Irish Feature Film at the festival a few days later. Not bad for a comedy.
I don't know how well it will translate outside of Ireland, but it's already been picked up to have a cinema release in september here!! So happy that I actually enjoyed it as a viewer myself, and can be proud of being involved (however small my contribution was).
For anyone interested, it's called The Young Offenders and if by some amazing fluke someone here has seen it, I'd love to hear your opinion.
