Congratulations! Have fun celebrating! It's really a great achievement - I can imagine how good it must feel to finally close that chapter... (and hope in a year or two I will also know it first hand if my full-time work doesn't keep interfering with my research... )

Congrats Dr Valgard! If you are ever tempted to go back to research, I can assure you that it probably won't feel as bad as your phd. It is still awful at times but you kind of get used to it and convince yourself that everything is fine

And to all those working towards them, nothing I have encountered since my phd has been as hard so keep plugging away and remind yourself of the fact that nobody will ever really look at your thesis after your viva anyway (I don't even know where mine is right now!!).

I passed my next round of Police Interviews! I think this pretty much means I have a job once I pass medical and police vetting, and seen as I am fit and healthy and I have a clean police record cos no-one has ever caught mecos I'm a well behaved member of society I should pass those! I am nearing the end of unemployment methinks.

Everyone is talking about Christmas. As a committed Scrooge, this would normally turn me into a quivering wreck but I have finally realised that there is no point being a Scrooge if you can't try to drag people down to your level and make people feel uncomfortable with tales of Christmas woe. Kind of like that bit in Gremlin's where the girl tells the story of hating Christmas because her dad fell down the chimney dressed as Santa and his rotting corpse was found some days later.
