In fairness, I didn't listen to all of it (he's got one of those voices/faces and I can't bear it for very long) so can't comment on the quality of the speech itself.

I don't mind Gervais, although he is a bit hit and miss (loved his Animals show and the Office but never really got into his other stuff). However, saying that people shouldn't use this platform to 'preach' because they themselves are proponents of big streaming services and Holywood seems a tad simplistic. These are people with a role model function and with a big platform, so I don't care how hypocritical it may be behind the scenes, they should use it wherever possible to advocate worthwhile goals (LGBT rights, women's right, environmental rights). FFS, Gervais even used the platform himself to ask people to donate for Australia. Ever heard of irony, mr Gervais?

Deep breaths, Christmas finally feels done and dusted. The whole run up to Christmas and my wife's Birthday on the 4th stresses me out - I'm just not happy until it's all done.

Weekend turned out well, I took her to a really nice top-end place for dinner and we stayed over. Her mum had the kids for the night, so we got a chance to relax a bit in a really nice place; great food, luxury bathroom and room, amazing breakfast. Had a long beach walk before coming home.

Kids back to school now, somewhat reluctantly but at least sort of back to normal routine this week.

Relief for now.

Honestly, I thought The Office was hot garbage. But Gervais is in it and my above point applied to it for me.

Also not a fan of The Office, it's not my sort of humour.

However, it is a great litmus test for finding the dickheads in a crowd. They're the ones that like to try and imply you can't have worked in an office or must be uneducated if you didn't like it. (I should point out I have the same opinion of that argument applied to any book, TV series, film etc.)

I don't see why it matters. The physical Slough office is just a setting that helps to contain a bunch of interesting characters in a relatively confined space with a hierarchical structure. The aim of the series is to explore social awkwardness and human nature with its whole range of emotions, from shallow pettiness and perceived self-importance through to friendship bonds and blossoming love interests. You could have set it in a high school teacher's office or a lawyer's firm or whatever, but a fairly generic office setting lends itself perfectly for this goal.

There are a few moments in the US OFFICE where I knew it was heading in the right direction before this one, but this is inarguably the moment I KNEW I was watching something quite special. what makes this even better is that Michael has zero idea what this means to Pam, how low she is that no one turned out to her show...if he DID know he might have said or did something cringe....but because he's accidentally doing it, it's much more pure and a distillation of who he REALLY is underneath all the bluster and idiocy. It's perfection.

I'm staying over for work near our HQ and was supposed to be taking a new guy out for dinner. He's sick so I took myself out for dinner instead and then went to see the latest Star Wars movie. Result.
