The French presidential election. So relieved that, unlike the US and my own dumb country, they have not given in to meaningless soundbites and populist right wing rhetoric...
This. I haven't been following near as closely as the US election, largely because it was always going to be these two, because France is less dangerous to the world on a whole, and I figured they were less likely to go the mad route, but still was worried.
All hail the French, bastions of Democracy. XD

Majority of Le Pen voters were 20-30 year olds. It was the elderly that voted Macron - you know, because they remember what a post-Nazi world was like.
France is extremely racist. They just hide behind secularism as a way to discriminate against ethnic groups, especially Middle Eastern people. Despite making up only about 10% of the population, Muslims make up something like 70% of prison inmates (stats are easily found if you google, I'm just lazy).
I'm actually surprised Le Pen didn't win. Extremely happy, but surprised.

See, that's interesting to me. Sure, the older generations remember, or are very close to being able to remember, the Nazis. But in America and UK, the youth were majority against their most stupid decisions, due to them being more informed/progressive/less racist. Weird that it's the other way around in France. I wonder what causes that.

Youth unemployment in France is higher than 20 %, and has been so for the last ten years.

And they really buy into the 'foreigners are stealing our jobs' according to the few French people I've spoken to.

We're working down in Dublin for a while, and were stuck bouncing round hotel rooms. I hate hotel living.
The boss got us a house sorted, he hit the jackpot.
clean, spacious, has a sauna and free wifi. great to be able to cook for yourself in the mornings and evenings.

As per the "The Book I Bought Today" thread in the Other Literature forum...
I found THE EMPTY THRONE, WARRIORS OF THE STORM and THE FLAME BEARER, the latest three books in the Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. I found them all in the charity shop near my house. They are all hardback copies. I paid the princely sum of £2 (which is $2.57 or CA$3.54 or AU$3.50 or EUR2.50) for all three (yup, for all three, not each...) I am quite chuffed with these findings.

had cracked the screen on my phone a while back and after a barney with the insurance wankers decide dto fix it myself.
finally got around to doing it tonight.
hella fiddly, but I think I've got it done alright. have a slight concern with the power/lock button acting funny, but the battery is basically flat so going to charge it up a bit first to see what the craic is.
if its just a positioning issue (like I assume) its easy to access that to move a little.
only down is I don't think I tamped one of the edges down tight enough when gluing the screen in, so theres a wee bit of light showing
