Ok, so something exciting and a bit scary happened.

I just got my first teaching job. Its part time, but I think the pay is ok and the institution is pretty prestigious.

Got a meeting on Thursday to finalise stuff.

I am so nervous. On the one hand, this is an important career milestone. On the other, this is going to really change my daily workload and routine.

Let's see how this goes

Good for you! It's normal to be nervous, give it some time. Before you know it you won't even remember your old routine or why you were nervous at all. My brother teaches history and says he was terrified for about 2 weeks but once he got into the rhythm of things he loved it. (I assume he still does because it's been about 12 years and he's still going!)

As for what's making me happy: Valentine's chocolates will be on sale tomorrow, mmmm.

I am just hoping I don't end up acting like a total idiot in front of the students.

Ahhh. Getting to the end of one of those days where my first thought was how long it was until I could go to bed. Just got to wait long enough for my dinner to go down and then I am hitting the hay. Hopefully I won't see 9pm.

there's a free service run by the local council that is geared towards helping new small businesses get a start. Help them with setting up a business plan to take to the bank, over coming red tape and the like.

I went for a meeting with them last monday, not really knowing to what extent they would be of help for me with my idea of building a driving range (see new years resolutions 2017 thread)

Unbelievably helpful.

just got an email from them today with a full business plan drawn up for me (although we're going to have to up the figures involved in the loan, a few things have become more expensive than envisioned) the whole thing is just unreal for a free service. I have no idea how much a fiancial/ business advisor would have cost me.

The Mrs and I just got back from one of our first extended (meaning more than 2 hours) date night since the Boo was born. It was the first one of that list of concerts that I listed here a few weeks ago. And it was GLORIOUS. Absolutely everything that I could have hoped for and the Mrs seemed to enjoy herself too.

This show was Circa Survive performing a 10 year anniversary tour of their second album "On Letting Go". Because I know a couple of you mentioned not knowing who they were (I'm looking at you Maccy) I'll spoil one of their songs here, but if you want more you'll have to ask for it in the music thread.

Spoiler

Damn but it was a good night.

Fingers crossed dude. One question: would the Dubai job involve much time each day working outdoors?

Probably not as strict as a union site in Aus, but still regulated.
But when I was in Northam it tipped over the 40 mark that often we had to scrap union rules for the site and worked up to 45s

I didn't know you'd actually been in the country. I was under the impression that visa thing was too much of a shit and it all stopped.

:D

EDIT
I've done extreme temps here, and generally when it's 40+ or so it's usually very dry and as such as a native I can mostly handle it. I wouldn't dig ditches in those temps, but I can function.

I was in Dubai briefly in August 2015, and dear God, 50 degrees with just a hint of humidity is hell on earth. :D
Probably didn't help that I came down with a flu just before we landed and I didn't fully shake it until 3 weeks later.

My mom's got a very very affordable appartment in Germany, where she works over the week, through a colleague from work and her very kind old neighbour lady. The price is less than a half of what she's been paying for an around 2x3m room in an apartment where she shared kitchen and bathroom with 3 other people.

On the bright side: extension to 0 is pretty regularly achievable now. without help I can get it to 6 degrees. And once it's at zero, it can actually stay there for a while, bending the arm once doesn't "re-set" it immediately

On the not so bright side: ow, the whole forearm feels bruised and half-shattered again.

OK, that sounds a bit more sensible. Still, have you seen any docos on the building of the Burj Khalifa? They worked outside year-round. Yuck!

I accidentally cooked an epic dinner tonight. I suggested to Mr PigDog that I would do a roast chicken with a lemon and tarragon sauce as it should be nice but take minimal effort (we are living off take out and ready meals at the moment as ..... baby). He tried to talk me out of it as he rightly pointed out that me previously quite amazing cookery skills seem to have left me and he said "is this made up out of your head because if so even when you follow a recipe at the moment it's awful". His cooking skills have left him too but I haven't got around to telling him because .... baby. But it turned out amazing and he had to say so. Ha! And there are leftovers.
